Have you ever felt like you were taken advantage of? My Story Your Advice |
|
I was wondering if you have ever felt like you were taken advantage of? I want to tell you something that has happen to me within a week ago. And I'd love to have your advice on it.
Well here we go....
Last Saturday my neighbor well he doesn't really have any family so for the past month I've been planning a baby shower for him. A month before I printed all the invitations and I did everything on them. All he had to do was write there name on the front of the envelop. I even bought the invitations and printed everything off on them. Two weeks before it I made{by myself} homemade chocolates for party favors. It took me 8 hours to do these stupid things. A week before I came up with what to put the party favors in. And I made little dixie cup booties to put the chocolate in. I made 40 of them. Plus the week of I bought all the decorations except two items. The night before I asked him to help me decorate for it and he said he wouldn't get out of work till later. So I went ahead and decorated. When he got home he went out shopping with a friend of his that needed to get a present for the baby shower. He didn't get home till after 1am. The day of. I made the a whole batch of decorated sugar duck cookies from scratch, made pigs in a blanket, and made and decorated the cake. I bought everything for those. Plus he bought but I made tuna, ham, peanut butter sandwiches. And he bought Chips. I bought all the silverware, plates, napkins, and gifts for the games. Oh and I created all the games that would be played at the baby shower too.
And on the day of he desided to play sick and didn't get up till noon when the baby shower was at 1pm.
With saying all that. Right after the baby shower was done. I was tired. And he had the nerve to say "I think since I did a lot of running around today. I think you should help me clean up and put the food away."
That hit a nerve and I walked out. And now I haven't really talked to him over a week. What would you do in that situation? Would you actually trust him? Or talk with him? Or would you just not want to deal with that kind of person no more?
Please tell me your advice.

1. Thumper11 (294) | 1 year ago | I would be pretty mad at the guy. I just can't imagine a person being kind enough to help me out and do so much and then not even offer to lift a finger or say even a thank you. I mean what is wrong with people these days? People just don't appreciate someone doing something nice for them. I have a good friend who is getting ready to have a baby shower... she and I have been throwing ideas together for months and her mom, sister, mother in law and sister in law have been helping us too, but she has taken on a lot of the planning herself since she hasn't been able to do anything physical at all. I know that you have offered to do all of this, but he could have offered to clean up and let you go get some rest.....

neededhope (391) | 1 year ago | Plus it was at his house too. And for all that work only 4 of his friends ended up showing up. Wait less than that. Two of his friends and me and my husband. Him and his girlfriend and her mom. That's about it. For all that work.
I just feel used. And it's awful to feel that way. I'm just that type of person to help someone else out and not worry about me. But usually I get greatitude this time It felt like a slap in the face....
This was the last time I'm helping him out. I just don't like the feeling. I enjoy helping others. And this is the first time I kind of regret it. To me not a great feeling.

neededhope (391) | 1 year ago | Oh I am. I haven't really talked with him in over a week. And I wish I could say I miss him but in actuallity I don't. It feels great to just worry about my own life rather than someone elses who doesn't appreciate. Plus yesterday I just heard from his girlfriend that he's upset because I'm not talking with him. I told her good because this is the way it's gonna be from now on.

3. KrauseHome (13448) | 1 year ago | Well personally, there is no way that I would have ever been able to go this far with planning a Shower for someone like this, and not getting more help from the beginning. Or I would have had the Shower at my place, and not worried about if he helped or not. I guess he was almost using you from the start, and Sorry to hear that it had to happen to you like this. Hopefully in time things will improve, and life can get better again. But if it does not, this is a lesson learned and you will often be better for it.
