What do you Do to Deal with Chronic Pain? |
|
There are many ways to deal with pain, most of us pop an aspirin and we're fine, but what if your pain lasts for weeks, months, years? You can't stay on those pain meds forever and stay healthy...so what do you do? Some suggest meditation...I have done some, and that has been helpful, to a degree. Do you have any coping suggestions that REALLY work?

2. oscarbartoni (1709) | 1 year ago | I use self hypnosis as the pain reliever of choice. I have had what should be pain that shod have crippled me and I do not use any prescribed meds. Most of the pain pills that I have taken in the past made me into a zombie. I decided then and there to not use something that would not let me function like a person but rather to use self hypnosis to get rid of the pain and live a more normal live if there is anything as a normal life.

Kashigurl (1168) | 1 year ago | I am using some self-hynosis myself and I agree it is an amazing thing. We can take a lot more than we think we can....I'm dealing with neuropathic pain caused by the brain too, which is an odd thing....

3. leenie50 (1807) | 1 year ago | Hi Kashi, I've been taking pain meds for a couple years now. The only other thing I can do that may help is shots in the lower spinal canal. I'm not too sure about that because my condition puts me at higher risk of paralysis. Nothing else seems to work. leenie

4. derek_a (5093) | 1 year ago | The important thing with pain is to get it checked out medically first so that you know what you are dealing with. If it is stress-related, then meditation will not necessarily get rid of it, because meditation is a tool that a person can use to get into the root cause of a condition, and quite often it can feel worse at first. It goes like this... if such pain is resisted, it comes more into consciousness, making it feel worse than before. I have an article on meditation on my website for those who may be interested. It also covers some of the difficulties that may be found.. http://ayrehypnotherapy.com/whymeditate:-) Derek

5. ZephyrSun (3498) | 1 year ago | I try to use distraction depending on how bad the pain is. I suffer from Fibro and sometimes it's so bad nothing will help but, usually as long as the pain is not in my hands I am able to just use distractions. I'll sit down and play a video game with my kids, or read them a book.

6. wolfie34 (13865) | 1 year ago | Some people have wonderful relaxation techniques that they can dissolve away the pain and they say that inner positivity can push the pain away, meditation as well can alleviate the pain and distress people suffer. I am very anti medication because your body in the end becomes immune to it, so what do you do, take even stronger medication? Until you become immune to that too? I don't think medication is always the answer it's not getting to the root of the problem, sometimes chronic pain can be caused by your state of mind, and I spouting Louise Hay here, but thank you for such a wonderful recommendation, I use that book like a bible now. Every Monday I go out to the park to a wide open space and digest it, and believe me it is helping me a great deal. I've learnt a lot of already, but I need to read the book two or three times more to get a better understanding of it, but truly it's magnificient, I can't thank you enough for recommending me the book! Hugs xxx

8. savypat (7653) | 1 year ago | I use yoga, I go to class three times a week and it's starts out slow but if you hang in there it can really help most chronic pain. I go to a moderate class, almost all of us are over 30 and we not not there to perfect Yoga, we are there to get the best we can from our bodies. Mine is thru a gymn and cost about $35.00 per month.
