Making a Gingerbread House  

You didn't cheat, you still had to put it together..Though I love to bake, it is my husband who is better at putting things together, so he will be doing that part..He even made circle cutouts for the windows, looks really cool..

Hey, I thought I would share the first part of making the house..After baking the roof and sides and allowing it to harden, my husband took some icing to put it together..Now we are waiting for the icing to harden so we can decorate it the rest of the way..We will decorate it either tonight or tomorrow and I hope to get the pictures of the finished house before Christmas..My husband did a wonderful job, the circles you see was not part of the cookie cutter, he did that on his own...

FINALLY!!!! This is the third time I tried uploading this picture..I made it to the lilbrary to upload my gingerbread house pictures, but my daughter had taken the pictures and didn't notice that my snowman was starting to fall.. So if you can imagine the snowmans head up right, this is what the front looks like..I will also post up pictures from the other three sides too..

My husband put it together last night and I took a picture this morning..I will be uploading pictures tonight at the library, so I will have that to share tomorrow if not late tonight..Then we have to wait until the icing hardens, about 24 hours and then do the decorating with more icing and candies..

I had to read the last line twice to get what you were saying, now I can't stop laughing...

And yeah, it is very sad when things change. We now have a very small Christmas, we don't get together with anyone because of our money problems and the distance to drive..So it usually is pretty quiet around here, even with my 6 y/o..

This is the back side of the ginger bread house. You can see where I outlined where my husband had cut out the windows..And the candy canes didn't turn out as well, because my son wanted to add candy to the candy canes I piped out and it didn't work...By then I was already starting clean up..So they look this way from me trying to put them together using a toothpick...

You and your son made a pretty good looking gingerbread house. What kind of icing did you use? We always used royal icing made with egg whites and powdered sugar. It hardens up pretty fast and sticks fast

But it is easy to use through a decorating bag? I used butter cream icing, without the milk, so it was thick and it dries quicker, but it goes through a decorating bad easily..Thanks for the comment, my son was very proud of his "house"

The consistency is the same as the butter cream you used. It does need covered up to keep it from drying out.
