Customer Support Agents | | | | Ever call customer support for something and couldn't understand the person talking to you? I mean really, whenever you have trouble with a product that you had to pay for, especially from a huge company like say Microsoft, you should expect to have a decent customer service line. Besides the fact that their phone quality is horrible (I hear more static than anything else, and NO its not my phone because there's only static when i call Microsoft) I ALWAYS have a service agent who barely speaks English. Now, please don't misinterpret what I'm saying, I am by no means racist, I'm merely pointing out that customer service agents almost ALWAYS have an accent so heavy that you can't understand what they are saying. Or worse, they can't understand what YOU'RE saying. Once again, I have no problem speaking, I speak very clearly and I know this for certain. I once had to give my address and the street name is "Privateer," like the old pirate ships. My service agent insisted that I was saying "Private Tier," which is almost understandable, except that it adds a whole extra syllable that I was not at all pronouncing. Anyone else ever have problems like this? | | | | | | | | | | Customer Service Skills 100% Online Associate's Degree in Customer Service for Working Adults EducationDegreeSource.com/Free_Info

| | I for one is a customer service agent for an american company. It's not that I have something against Americans who usually think that we agents are just not really good on speaking english, but yes, some areas in the world could never really speak good english like other people do. so, if you think you're not really speaking to someone who's that good, then be honest with that person that you're not understanding her/his accent at all. I have nothing against this post too but being one of the agents here in the Philippines, I do understand how it feels when people would say that we have the accent not considering what their flaws would be also. It's just like, if you're really good on speaking english but you're not good on writing something like an article or not good in spelling. So, I think we also need to consider this that it's not all people in this world who could have good english accent. We're also filipinos, and we work for international companies. So, please also don't expect us to have really good english accent. We can't be like that like a blink of an eye or just like a snap of our fingers. | | | | | | | | dupree2010 (22)

| | Believe me I do understand. What I was *trying* to get at (although I can see how that may not have worked) was that these big multi billion dollar companies should have some kind of English training courses for employees. I'm not expecting the world to speak English but at least American based companies or companies that operate in america/ any other english speaking country should have employees fluent in english. In fact I won't even limit this to english. When I call, there are two options - English and Spanish. Suppose a French person called? Or someone who spoke Italian? What option are they going to choose? I think these big companies need to put more wee bit more thought into there customer service areas, and this would DEFINITELY include more funding. Please respond, I'm actually enjoying this conversation. :) | | | | archerzbaby (2534)

| | Centers now actually have Spanish Speaking agents & yes, we do have English Accent Training but since it's not our number one language here, especially in the Philippines, we could never be like english speaking people at once. It's just like, when you're good on speaking the english language, but there's something you're not really good at. So, no offense, we all have our flaws. So, I think the best way to do if you're not comfortable with the person you're speaking with is to simply find another agent who could speak good english or someone you could easily understand so you won't be having a difficult time. | | | | | dupree2010 (22)

| | I get what you're saying. Only, wouldn't the agent get offended by me asking for another person to speak to? I know if i was talking to someone and they told me they couldn't understand me I'd be pretty mad. Kind of like when you have that one annoying friend that pops up everywhere, and you just can't tell them to leave you alone. That's what it feels like to me. | | | | | | | Customer Service Skills 100% Online Associate's Degree in Customer Service for Working Adults EducationDegreeSource.com/Free_Info | add comment | | | |
