|
Well the speculation is over. Caroline Kennedy just publicly announced she wants the new york senate seat being vacated by Hilary Clinton. What do you think... will she get it? Should she get it?

1. RBNLOVESPOH (183) | 1 year ago | She does not have what it takes to be a Senator. Just because she is a Kennedy does not mean she should get the seat. People are sick of all the royalities that some show these people, like the Clintons, Bushes and the Kennedys. If we wanted a dynasty we would not have parted with England and stayed under their rule.

It's embarrassing.

lilwonders456 (1930) | 1 year ago | Besides being a lawyer what political expierence does she have? None. All she has is her last name. She has spent her whole life trying to stay out of the limelight and politics. Now all of a sudden she wants in. But she will get it....she is a Kennedy. They get what they want.

lilwonders456 (1930) | 1 year ago | Yep. Two Kennedys get murdered in office so I guess any Kennedy that wants it now can have it. But given that past would you really want it?

3. irisheyes (2933) | 1 year ago | While I certainly do not think she is the most qualified candidate, she's probably the candidate that the people of New York would like to see represent them and they would probably vote for her in a run off election. So I guess if you look at it that way, she should get it.

lilwonders456 (1930) | 1 year ago | Of course she will....look who her father was. He was assinated while in office. There has always been a romantic remembering of him and Jackie, not to mention their children. But how is she herself qualified not who her father was.

irisheyes (2933) | 1 year ago | My point wasn't WHY the people of New York wanted her but merely THAT they probably wanted her and ultimately it will be their choice for whatever reason they deem fit.

4. thelastwolf113 (3086) | 1 year ago | I'm from New York and I don't know anything about her, except her name. That's not good enough for me. I'm not fond of Kennedy's anyway. I won't judge her on her father, or uncles, but I need to know more about her before I can say one way or the other.

lilwonders456 (1930) | 1 year ago | She is a lawyer with no poltical experience and a lot of clout because of who her dad and uncle were.

anniepa (9287) | 1 year ago | She's written a couple books about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and is quite a Constitutional scholar I've heard. She's raised a lot of money for the N.Y. public school system. She's never been a politician herself but she's lived around politicians her entire life. Annie

5. anniepa (9287) | 1 year ago | I'm pretty sure she WILL get it although I could be wrong since there's been no official announcement made so far. Should she get it? I'm not sure; for me it would be like a fairytale since she was the little girl at her daddy's funeral, America's Sweetheart more or less so I'll admit if I see her sworn in to the U.S. Senate it will feel a bit like justice or something like that. However, I know a Senate seat isn't something that should be given to someone because of who they are or who they're related to. On the other hand, it seems a lot of people don't really know what they want - they want people other than life-long politicians in office but they also don't want anyone without experience. You really can't have it both ways! Annie

lilwonders456 (1930) | 1 year ago | I have nothing against Caroline Kennedy. In fact I feel really bad for her. She has gone through alot in her life, much of it sorrow. Yet she has beared up and gone on with her life. I respect her for that. I honestly do.
On the other hand I am tired of the "royalty" we have here or the dynasty's we have. The Bush's, the Kennedy's, etc.... Families that through the generations always have someone in it in a seat of power. I would like to see more average people go to washington. People like you and me. People who know what it is like to have to live on a tight budget, do without sometimes. The rich may empathize with the poor and middle class but they do not really understand our lives or how what they do effects us.

anniepa (9287) | 1 year ago | I do agree with you. Like I said, I guess for me and my generation we've had a kind of fascination with Caroline since she was a little girl so I guess in a way it's like she IS our "princess". I would love to see someone like you or me make it to the U.S. Senate or House but HOW can we do that? That's what $ucks, you have to have name recognition and for that you need money. It's like I've said many times, we'd all love to see non-politicians get these offices for a change but the only time that has a chance at happening is with a wealthy business person or a celebrity. You would think in these days with the internet and everything it would be easier to get a real, true, ordinary American on the ballot and hopefully into D.C. Even right now with the crisis facing the automakers if the UAW got behind a laid-off auto worker the media might even give them some airtime.
In Pennsylvania we have our "dynasties" as well. Former Governor Casey's son is now in the U.S. Senate. Of course, I love him and was SOOOO happy he beat Rick Santorum, who I have no clue how he ever got in! When he ran for the Senate for the first time the main campaign ad against him was a clip of him saying "everyone" should have to work until "at least 70, I'd go higher if I could". He was a whole 37 at the time, never did an ounce of physical work in his life and our state is second only to Florida in our elderly population. Sorry, I got off topic a bit but the point is sometimes voters only options are political royalty or something even worse! Annie

6. xfahctor (5581) | 1 year ago | I don't know much about her actualy. From what little I do know, from her writing, she is almost libertarian in her ideology, wouldn't be a bad thing to have in congress would it? But all that aside, she has zero experience, not just "little" experience, but zero. If the people of that district in NY want her, than it's their perogative I guess. If patterson deiceds he wat's her, it's his perogative, he is reposnable for the appointment, lets just hope he does a lot of asking around and go with who ever the people of NY decide they want.
