Has Smallville gone on too long? |
|
Smallville was pretty good when it started but I think it's gone on far too long. In the early episodes Clark fought a different "meteor freak" every week. That got old after a while so the writers had to come up with something new. They started introducing characters that should never have met Clark when he was still living in Smallville. He shouldn't have met Lois until he moved to Metropolis and started working at the Daily Planet. He's also already fought and defeated half of Krypton so when he finally does become Superman there will be no one left to fight.
I'm not an expert on the whole Superman story, but I know enough to know that the writers have messed around too much with the story. I think they probably should have finished Smallville when Clark finished school.
Does anyone else think it has lasted too long? It's supposed to be "Superman The Early Years" but he's in his early twenties now.

2. uicbear (1522) | 11 months ago | I think the biggest deviation from Superman lore is the death of Clark's father. I still enjoy the show, but I now take it on face value and don't try and link it with the other Superman stories that I have been exposed to.

crispeater (1461) | 11 months ago | I agree. I think Clarks father should have lived long enough to see him become Superman.

| 3. Numitori (1) | 11 months ago | As much as i ove smallville, i gotta agree that the show has gone on too long. They could have at least made it a spinoff or something and changed it from what it was supposed to be (a clark kent finding his purpose in life story) to an superman show or something. At the rate they're going, they will have brought in the whole justice league and all the villans before clark even thinks of putting on a suit.

crispeater (1461) | 11 months ago | I think after the first few years they probably should have just ended Smallville and called it Superman instead.

4. DarthJustice (1277) | 11 months ago | I used to be a huge fan of the show and watched it every week. Now I rarely watch the show. I think the last new episode I saw was the alternate timeline episode where Clark saw what life was like had he never left Krypton. I'll watch it from time to time but not like I used to.
But yes, I think the show should come to an end soon. As people like to say on the IMDb boards, he's all but become Superman at this point in all but name and costume. It's time to stop fooling around. It's time to officially become Superman.
I remember hearing way back when the show first started that they originally were going to go just five seasons. Obviously that didn't happen though. But I do wish they would stop dragging it out.

crispeater (1461) | 11 months ago | Five seasons would have been good I think. I think a good way to end it would have been with Clark applying for a job at The Daily Planet or something.

| 5. emeka4life (23) | 9 months ago | i totally agree with u that smallville has gone too long. currently i am on season 7 and yet clark still does not know how to fly. according to the comic, he learnt how to fly when he was a teenager. the writters have messed up with story line of superman.

crispeater (1461) | 9 months ago | That's true. I also think Clarks father was always supposed to live long enough to see his son put on the suit and cape.

6. daryljane (1318) | 6 months ago | I get your point. I just finished reading Smallville over Wikipedia and they're even planning for season 9 on fall. Although there are lots of things happening in the series along CK's life story, along the process, the producers decided to slowly introduce the Justice League, thats when Green Arrow and the rest of the guys started coming out. They's now planning on making it like the DC Comic Book of Superheroes. I dont know how they will end the series. But im loving it.
