WHAT You're Kidding......Right? |
|
My brothers and I have have a bit of a trying time, this year, attempting to get my mother what she wanted for Christmas. You see all she wants is a regular old camera. You remember those, not digital, not disposable, just a regular old point and shoot camera that loads film in the back.
Well it seems we are out of luck this year and any year in the future as I've been told they will stop manufacturing these cameras and the film is soon to follow. Yes, you heard me right, no more 35 mm film will be manufactured. I was told this by the photo people at the local Wal-Mart.
Now I'm unsure whether to believe them or not. I was talking to one young man that worked there and I asked this guestion, "what about professional photographers that use 35 mm cameras, what are they to do?" One of his co-workers had stepped up, about that time, and he said, "yea, that's ME and I AM LIVID!!!!" That statement made me a bit more inclined to believe it but still.............
Do you find this strange? Will they really stop making 35 mm film? Will we be left with digital cameras ONLY? Have you heard this bit of news?

1. Chevee (3649) | 1 year ago | I haven't heard this either. It will be very interesting to find out how the professional's are going to handle this. Some people love to do things the old way including photograhy, I am sure you will be able to find some film some where, I hope so for the ones that would like to keep using their cameras and 35 mm films.

Chevee (3649) | 1 year ago | I have an old camera that you have to load the film in the back of it. I haven't used it in a long time, I don't even know if it will still work.

2. prplrust (492) | 1 year ago | Yes, I have heard that also. I stopped using my Minolta's about two years ago and went digital. I tried to sell one of my camera's last week and I was told there wasn't much of a market for them anymore. They offered me $35 for it and that simply wasn't an option.

Irishfrndly65 (7491) | 1 year ago | So will you just hold onto it? I have 2 working instamatic cameras and I was told that they had already stopped manufacturing film for those. So my man says, "hold onto them and someday they will be worth something". No, practical me, I'm not into storing something purely under speculation when I am already cleaning out to downsize. I said, "what would anyone want an old camera for, that they can't get any film for". My man says, "there are lots of antiques that you can't use but people still want them". I don't know about him but I've seen the "antique" market really really declining recently. I'm ready to chunk the cameras. LOL! Should I list them on ebay?
| |
|
|
prplrust (492) | 1 year ago | Oh I am definitely holding onto mine. Maybe sell that one because I have two Minolta cameras and just keep the better one. But I'm not letting go without a fight. I do photography as a passion and as a side job. My camera's have always been and always will be a very important part of who I am. Right down to the digitals I own as well.

3. myklj999 (7262) | 1 year ago | I think the Wal-Mart people are confused. I know at Amazon you can purchase new Nikon 35mm film cameras, and at the Kodak website you can order 35mm film. I tried searching the web for information about what you heard and didn't get any definite hits on it, so...

Irishfrndly65 (7491) | 1 year ago | They were both very adamant about it and the one kid was VERY angry! I'm getting conflicting info too.

|
prplrust (492) | 1 year ago | But the point is you are "ordering online"....of course the web site is going to sell film. They are very hard to find in stores. I know, I've tried.

5. James72 (6974) | 1 year ago | I realize that digital camera's are the more popular choice these days, but it's way too early to be removing 35mm versions off the shelves?? It will end up like music lovers that refuse to give up on vinyl having to search high and low to find records! There HAVE to be photographic stores that specialize in camera's, film and accessories only that stock them nearby? Wal-Mart are just doing what all the major chains do and hedging their bets with mass market stock rather than niche lines. I would be amazed if 35mm camera's and film were phased out anytime soon Irish, you will just have to look somewhere else is all.

Irishfrndly65 (7491) | 1 year ago | Yip Walgreens and CVS no longer carry them either. They all carry the disposables though. I was told to try Wolf Camera, which is a big shop about 2 hours from me. LOL!
I did find her a Disney Princess, my first camera, but...I'm don't think she would like it..........

6. BCMike (3316) | 1 year ago | Because digital is so much more convenient than film, there is far less demand for film.
And now that the pixel count is so much higher on the low price cameras, they are grainy like they used to be.
Add to that, the high end professional cameras do everything that the old film cameras did and more, you can easily see where that's going.
I used to think that one of those one hour photo finishing machines would be the just the thing for someone with a disability. Not now though.

8. thebohemianheart (2744) | 1 year ago | I haven't heard anything about it, but I do know a couple of professional photographers who have just invested in some very high tech, over the top, digital cameras and equipment, so maybe THEY have heard about it and are preparing for the demise of old fashioned film and cameras.
