How important is high school really? |
| |
| I've been thinking a lot about this lately and I'm wondering how important high school really is. Doesn't it depend on how hard the person really works? My mom and dad were both high school drop outs and they're both living differently. My dad works at a factory and owns a house, a camper, a pool table, big screen, many different game systems, and the list goes on. Unfortunately my mom didn't end up as lucky, and owns nothing. She works her butt off every day to survive, while my dad hardly works at all. His benefits are through the roof. The same goes for my two high school drop out uncles. One of them lives in a shed behind a business he works at and he walks everywhere because he doesn't have a car. My other uncle owns a beautiful house, furnishings, luxury's, and that list goes on as well. I dropped out of high school but went back. Now I'm miserable! I'm so tired of high school drama. I love talking about politics, religion, etc. while everyone else loves to talk about drugs, sex, music, and who got a hair cut. It's driving me insane. I can't look at a guy without his girlfriend threatening to fight me because I was checking her man out. =/ If I work my butt off I can graduate in two years (because I dropped out I have a lot to make up) and I'll be 19. I don't know if I can stand 2 more years of this. I want to be a traveling nature photographer who works for myself. If I were to drop out will that mess EVERYTHING up? Do you think I should stick with it and just get it over with? I was happy with being out of school now I'm completely miserable and I hate getting up every morning. Any thoughts? | | | | | |

| | I can honestly say i learnt nothing of value in High School, I couldn't wait to leave, although I think I could have done better with my life, I think I should have looked at more job areas to go into, as I think to get into an area you are interested in at the bottom level and work your-self up is the way to go...unless one wants to be a lawyer or something I can't see the point of too much education at high school level... | | | | | | |

| | I know people with college degrees who aren't doing anything. Life is what you make out of it. I suggest you just stick with it. However, can you maybe get a GED? I know people who got their GED in 6 mos and it's really the same thing. | | | | | | |

| | I know many people who have been to school for many years. And after these years, what are they doing? Most often, the years at school hasn´t been useful for them beacuse of any reason.1 reason is often, that it´s hard to find a work just in the area they have read about. | | | |

| | I do believe you already have your own answer kept deep in your mind and blood. The only matter is you are now in the situation of a technical indecisive. OK, I hope you don't mind if I elaborate your point this way for your decision making. Just look for 10 advantages and disadvantages on both contrary sides; stay-in or leave-out; respectively. If you can't find 10 means you are still guessing for your future life and out of the 'calculative-luck' system. At this point, means - you have to surrender your future life to nature to take control on you and your future life. When we talk about academic life, one of the major motive is to provide yourself with an academic paper qualification. At least you got something to be proud of you and your own next generation, see - you had made your own analysis happened to your both parents and uncles for where are they and their status. Meaning - In your academic world achievement, the most important is your future networking. When we enter high school > university > our future friends, most of them will be somebody in future. If you're doing your own biz, let say as professional photographer, your top-ranking networking from them already waiting for you and able to land their helps in ensuring your business to grow. In comparison, in your life you can choose to be a pair of 'slipper'(footwear). Don't mind. But make sure you're the footwear to one king, used it in his palace. But not the one used by a poor man and always choose you when he need to go toilet. That's all from me, something as 'a drop in your bucket'. | | | | | | |

| | For one thing, you cannot educate yourself further without a high school diploma or the equivalent. And....there are many employers that will not hire people without at least a high school diploma or the equivalent. I have two nephews who thought they did not need high school. They both dropped out of school. One of them was smart enough to pass tests to get his GED. The other is still struggling to pass those tests just to get his GED. Take advantage of your high school education. Learn all you can. Believe me, you will be glad you did. The more you learn, the more you can earn. | | | | | | |

| | Ever thought about getting your GED? My son was like you and hated high school. He dropped out with two years left also. But, after five years of low paying jobs and just trying to even find a job, he realized he needed his diploma. So he took the courses and got his GED. This day and age is much different than when your parents were in high school. Back then there were plenty of jobs and as long as you worked hard you were paid good. Unfortunately that isn't the case these days. Even my son with his GED is still struggling to earn a decent pay. He regrets not having gone to college, since he sees all of his friends now with their nice cars, decent homes and great pay. While he struggles to survive on just above minimum wage. His friends are able to save, have fun and do all the things he can't. And son is now a single dad trying to survive on his GED education job. I really think you need to think this thru and see the big picture. A couple of years now may mean alot for your many future years to come. Because right now there are even college graduates that are strugging to find work. And when it comes to an employer choosing between a college grad and a drop out - who do you think they will choose? | | | | | | |

| | I'm also sure your dad busted his tail end off to get what he has. I'm sure your mom worked hard, but it seems your dad worked a little harder on his goals. I believe highschool can help because then you can move on to college... college is important if you want to be a doctor or ect... I guess it all depends on the person... I would look at your life & start thinking what you want to be, then go from there... Do you want a good paying job or does that not matter? Some good jobs to require high school graduates... This is something you need to think long & hard on.. only you can make the choice.. | | | | | | |

| | to be honest i think its important but on the other hand life doesn't depend on it. i left school with not many good grades yet now 5 years on im training to be a nurse as well as studying law through courses where you dont need good grades to get on it. so even though i did awful in school im still suceeding now. however high schools good because if you knuckle down you can get straight into uni unlike me and not have to waste a few years of your life. | | | | | | |
