| With a Morrissey concert in the horizons (which I have YET to purchase tickets to because I'm flat broke) I've been listening to perhaps an unhealthy amount of him and The Smiths. But. To spice things up, any suggestions for other bands I should check out? | | | | | |

| | I was introduced by Death Cab for Cutie's cover of "This Charming Man." I didn't realize it was a cover at first, and became a hug fan of Morrissey and The Smiths after that. With a beautiful barotone voice (often punctuated by a high falsetto) and thoughtful lyrics, very British, very 80s, very awesome; Morrissey's somewhat notorious for his divisive (and loud) opinions. Have a listen! | | | |

| | I'm still not sure what type of music are they. Are they rock? What type of rock? | | | |

| | They were part of the New Wave scene in the 80's, at around the same time that U2 was just a little-known band out of Ireland. As such, The Smiths are often classified as New Wave/New Romantics/Indie Rock. In the late 80s, Morissey and guitarist Johnny Marr had a falling out, which led to the demise of The Smiths. If you've never heard of The Smiths, you're missing out on something, because they're considered to be one of the most seminal bands to come out of Manchester, England. | | | |

| | I'm a massive fan of The Smiths. The only album I like though from Morrissey was his debut album Viva Hate. I'd have to say that despite of the albums that came later, I still think Suedehead and Everyday Is Like Sunday, are Morrissey's best-written songs. I'm still hoping that someday The Smiths would reunite. 10,000 Maniacs, another band that emerged at around the same time the Smiths did, is something you should check out. At least their albums between 1981 and 1993 (when Natalie Merchant left the band after the MTV Unplugged album). They did a cover of Morrissey's Everyday Is Like Sunday too. | | | | | | |

| | I. Love. You. (And your description of The Smiths was much, much better than mine; I appreciate it ^.^) His older albums were great, but I really liked "You Are the Quarry." My all-time favorites include "Bigmouth Strikes Again," "I Like You," "Asleep," and "Panic". (I also melt every time I hear "Let Me Kiss You"). Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely be checking 10,000 Maniacs out! | | | |
