Are you defined by your personality?  email this discussion to a friend?

I've been talking with a new friend, who's very into the fact that he's an INTJ. Which got me thinking about personality types again. About 10 years ago I took a test, found out I was an INTJ, and at the time (I was a young teenager) it really helped guide my understanding of myself, and why I tend to act in certain ways, and look at the world in particular ways. And why, most importantly, I don't always understand other people and why they don't understand me.

Do you know your Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) type? Does it describe you accurately? Does it affect the way you think about your interactions if you realize, in precise terms, why you and someone else are approaching a conversation or problem from different perspectives and with different goals?

Before you mentioned this I had no clue what it was you were referring to. What is an INTJ? What is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) type?

Here's a link to a pretty quick test to get started with, from there you can google your results to get all sorts of nifty analysis and such. http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

Basically, the MBTI defines you on four parameters: Introversion/Extroversion, Sensing/iNtuition, Thinking/Feeling, Judging/Perceiving. Your tendency on each of these gives you the four letters, which is a good shorthand to describe yourself and talk with others who know the system. (An INTJ would be Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking and Judging).

It seems like it would be a bit simplistic, but I've found it really does a great job of predicting general behaviour. I'm curious to know if you think so too, if you're interested in finding out ;]
