Have you met the braces fairy?  

I don't know the braces fairy, Its. Had I met her when I wore braces I think that I would have torn off her wings.

I wore braces for four years and I hated every second of it. They were silver and I had plain looking rubber bands.

I kind of have mixed feelings about braces. Sometimes I think it's just another peer pressure thing to be perfect. I have 2 teeth that sit sideways and I was made to feel that my teeth were substandard in some way. It was years before I smiled without my lips closed. Then, when I grew up, I thought, "man my teeth aren't bad at all, what was the purpose of making me feel like they were?" I never got the braces that the dentist wanted to put on me. They told my mother they would need to pull 4 TEETH to get those 2 straightened out??????

It's the same thing with all the teeth whitening products. Sometimes I fear it is all to play on our insecurities. If there is an issue where the child can't chew right or their jaw is messed up.....but just to have straight teeth so that they won't be looked down on.........that just get more and more twisted to me. Why should we feel bad if we have a few crooked teeth?

I have some friends in Scotland, where there is socialized medicine. They don't get all into the braces frenzy over there. It makes me wonder why....maybe because the dentist don't get paid for braces....because they're only medically nexessary about 10% of the time????? Makes one wonder, doesn't it?

Your nice has Interceptive orthodontic treatment. Very often it is refer as phase one or early orthodontic treatment. It is very beneficial in most cases. It is less invasive if child needs phase two later on.If she has phase one now, she may avoid unnecessary extractions later on.It all depends on malocclusion class that she has.
All problems are easier to correct if started early.

I must say I have met the Braces Fairy.
But when I was a kid I don't think braces had been invented.
Luckily I did not need braces.
My neice had braces, her's were clear with coloured beads on them.

I got braces when I was 14 or 15, and I think I only wore them for about a year. I had colored rubberbands around the brackets for a little while. Eventually I got tired of doing that, though.

I really didn't mind having them all that much, besides the pain that came right after visiting the dentist. Mostly, it wasn't bad because I still ate whatever I wanted and the dentist never said anything.

I still have a wire glued to my bottom front teeth that the dentist put there when I got my braces taken off in high school. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be removed eventually? I haven't gone to the dentist since 2003, I think, when I had been in college for a year and my parents had to take me off their insurance.

I've had my first braces when i was in 6th grade.. then it was taken off when i was in fourth year high school.. but when i had my annual check up two years ago, my new dentist advised me to wear up and down braces again.. yay! of course, i followed what she said and yes, i'm wearing braces for the second time.. i'm using colored rubberbands to add more fun! =)

I had my braces when I was 21 years old and I miss having braces. I'm wearing my retainers now and as if I have false teeth wearing. I had colorful rubber bands everytime I visit my dentist. It's painful at first and newly adjusted but eventually I get used to it as if I wanted to bite something or even someone when it was newly adjusted. I want my braces back because I miss wearing them but I guess everything falls into stages that I need to remove them. I had braces for 3 years and I have my retainers for about 5 months now.

Wow that is early! I would have thought thay needed their permanant teeth first. I haven't met the braces fairy and neither have my kids at this point. My youngest one may need them but so far so good. They have all kinds of colors now. There was a little girl on my daughters cheerleading team once that got the school colors.lol Blue braces and white bands. Quite spirited.

Given the process that your daughter will have to go through initially, I hope the Braces Fairy will be arriving with at least a few hundred bucks when the time comes! Aside from telling kids that broccoli is little trees and things like that to make them eat their vegetables, I can't recall any other examples at the moment. But a child's aactive imagination can certainly help make some things easier! It's a shame when they grow up and get too wise for things like that. lol.

Now Faith!! hahahaha.. no,, I never had braces and I actually remember a girl in my class when I was in the fifth, that had some wire gadget and I thought it must be very uncomfortable. I was glad I didnt need to have braces and even asked the dentist since I was pretty scared I couldnt play ball if I had such a contraption on my face.. kids.. the way we thought, eh?

My daughter never required them either which was also a blessing I guess, becuase by the time she was in third or fourth class, she had friends that had them and even asked if she shouldnt also have them.. but they were more with a silver wire across the top teeth and looked not as when I was a youngster.
I think it is wonderful that people who need braces or some corrective devise or procedure are able to have it. I also can understand the trauma involved if one is of a very selfconscious age. I remember my daughter getting a haircut was often traumatic. She is curly blond and when you cut that those curls spring up and the hair looks shorter than it actually is.. Any haircut time was a very tough time. But to do the teeth also.. I am glad personally I didn't need some braces..I think my family could not have afforded it at any ratebut I would have been even more selfconscious than I was, if that is possible, back then.

Are you grateful you had them? How long did you need to have them on? Did you ever get teased or was it just a normal thing in that time?
