boiling an egg |
| |
| when you boil an egg, do you use an egg timer? do you watch the clock? check your watch? or just wait till you think it's ready?....i tend to use an egg timer because i like my yolk soft and the white not so sloppy, but cooked, so what do you use when your boiling your egg? | | | | | |

| | I just wait until I think it's ready before I take it out to taste it. Sometimes I am off though, and more often then not I am. I don't fix eggs that often so I haven't got into the groove of when they are done opposed to when they aren't. I don't like using timers though. I've heard eggs hard boil in five minutes but then again I've heard they hard boil in 30 minutes. | | | | | | |

| | Hi tatty, I have never used an egg timer so I just take it out when I think its ready and it usually just right, just the way I like, not too runny and not hard. Love and hugs. Tamara | | | | | | |

| | No, I don't use timer. As I seldom eat the white, I don't care what kind it will be boiled. I like york no matter it is soft or hard. I turn off the gas switch when the egg is floating. Lol, do you mind telling me how many mins you need to get that kind boiled egg you like? | | | | | | |

| | what i do is put cold water into a pan, add the egg at the same time, when the water comes to the boil, then i start timing the egg, i let it boil for 3 minutes then take the egg out, then i run it under a cold tap for a few seconds, it comes out perfect, soft yolk and the white is cooked perfect.... | | | |

| | Nope I have never used a timer. I get the water boiling and drop in the egg and wait 5 minutes. Turns out every time but I like mine hard boiled. I don't eat boiled eggs that often but I do fix a lot of things that have boiled eggs in them like potato salad, deviled eggs, macarino salad etc. | | | | | | |

| | I just wait until I think it's ready. There was only a couple of times that I took it out too early, but it usually comes out just right. My husband will look on the internet for directions. I find it hilarious, but it works. | | | | | | |

| | Hey tatty! I try to watch the clock and hope that I get it timed pretty well so that I don't overcook them! I don't ever really know what the exact time is even after all these years of cooking them! I just kind of usually get it about right by just praying I guess! I love my boiled eggs! As long as they aren't all runny and yucky cause they I won't eat them! | | | | | | |

| | I don't boil my "boiled" eggs. I either heat the water to boiling and then turn the heat off and let the eggs cook in the covered pan, or use one of those egg cooking appliances, like Henrietta the Hen, you know: http://www.amazon.com/gp/... Actually, min e is not that fancy, but it hardcooks 6 eggs automatically and all I have to do is add 3 Tbsp of water and a drop of vinegar to the base. It does the rest. Well, they do come out better if I poke a tiny hole in the bottom of each egg before nuking them. | | | | | | |

| | now i am scratching my head in puzzlement, i swear i posted a thread about that little egg maker, anyways, what i was saying was...there was this guy on dragons den who invented an egg cooker, it was like a little capsule about the same size of an average egg, no water, and what you do is place the egg inside, close it, switch on the timer and wallah, one perfect egg, this man made millions, now i have just seen henrietta, i thought it ws the same thing, it is in a way but henrietta looks like she can take multiple eggs instead of just one....i don't know where this is going really...lol... i am still baffled to where my thread went....hmmm...yep, definitely losing it for real...lol... but i do like the idea of the way you cook your eggs not heard of that before, so when i get back from shopping i am going to try it out...thanks for the tip drannhh.... | | | |

| | That device you describe sounds very ingenious and I would love to see it if you find a link! Well, I usually use the electric egg cooker, but if you try the method where you turn the heat off, I believe the correct time to leave the eggs covered in the water that was brought to a boil and then turned off is 20 minutes. I think I was told 15, but did not find that they cooked to my liking in that short a time. Longer and they might overcook, as we do not want them green around the yolk, lol. I've tried them in the microwave, and guess what, they DO explode! | | | |
