I've been reading about how you should have all this food, water, and other stuff set back for a variety of reasons...financial, weather, or any other reasons. I'm wondering how stocked up you need to be.

I do have a stock of some things....canned goods like soup etc...and a bunch of stuff in the freezer. But I don't think that qualifies for what they think you need to have on hand just in case of a catastrophy...I could quickly get water...and I do have some extra food....and since I live alone I guess maybe I do have it covered!

We definitely have a backstock of some foods. We've been getting food from some of the food pantries that are in our area, and we just don't go through it that fast. So we have an abundance of some vegetables. Once we have some extra money, I'm going to seriously stock up on some things. If nothing else, I won't have to go to the grocery store as soon. It's just a matter of knowing when to stock up on the perishables.

I would say it depends on your family situation. When I had kids living at home I was not comfortable unless I had two to three weeks of food in the house. That way I knew if something happened like one of was sick and off work my kids wouldn't go hungry. Now that they are all grown I'm lucky if I have 2-3 days of food in my house.
