In India many big wigs and big politicians have been booked in different crimes ranging from stealing off public money to murder. But when ever they are caught when it is big thing in papers and huge hue and cry special jails are made for them. Govt rest houses with big lawns are converted in to jail with every modern facility given to them while poor man who is accused of same crime in thrown in to jail where a room / cell made for 4 people houses more than 1 doz prisoners and no basic facility is given to them. Does it happen in other countries too?

Yes they do...different punishment according to the judge, the witnesses, and the person. There are many people in jail who are in there for crimes they did not committ. Some whose whole lives are wasted for something they never did. However, many ppl who did horrendous things are on the streets and are not in jail because of a slip up of the system.

i was talking about everything same in a crime and both have equal crimes against them and it is proved in both cases yet powerful ppl get away with lighter sentences than an ordinary man gets

It's that way her as well. The have the federal prison system or "big House". That is like going to a country club for them. So many amenities! Then there is the "common" prisons for the other people...poor people. And the ones that didn't commit a federal crime.

I believe it happens in every country. I think it has to do with how much money you can pay for a lawyer. If you have no money you get a public defender who may or may not have ever even tried a case. If you have money you can hire a lawyer from a big firm who can hire investigators or specialist to help defend you. I don't think it should have anything to do with the amount of money you have or who you are. Every crime and criminal should be treated the same.
