what's the second most important language in the world? after english of course  

I say that the most important language in the world is Love.

Following the Language of Love, the most important language in the world is determined by what language is being spoken around you and whether you can understand it.

Here in the States the second most used language I believe is Spanish. We get a lot of immigrants from Mexico and some South American countries and they all speak Spanish.

Well I guess that would depend on where you live. Here is American a good second language to know would be Spanish, because there are a lot of Spanish speaking citizens here, and because of close proximity to South America. But French could be useful as well if we were to travel over the Canadian border. But if you life in Europe, it might be good to know how to speak German, or Italian, or French.

According to one of my sons, who has traveled a lot around the world, the second most important language is Russian. I have no idea why, I would have thought it was Spanish since so many peoples can understand that language. As for me, I'll stick to English and skip[ the rest

I know that in the United States, the second most used language is Spanish. That is because Mexico is so close, and a lot of Hispanic people move here from their homelands. I don't know how this works out across the world, but in the US its great if you know both English and Spanish if you are looking to work with the public.

I don't believe that English is the number one language. That distinction would probably be Chinese, possible the Mandarin dialect? I also think that Spanish is more widely spoken than English, although I could be wrong with that.

I don't know any language except English, sad to say. I took some Spanish in high school but that was 40 years ago. Spanish is becoming very important, too, especially here in the United States where the Hispanic population is increasing.

I think that after English, Spanish is the most spoken language around the world. It is spoken in many countries, and is not confined to a single continent either - Spanish is spoken in Europe, and South America, and due to the existence of several Spanish colonies, there are many places in the world where it is still commonly used

If you would have asked to list the most spoken language of the world,it would have been easier to reply. Mandarine is the language that most people of the world speak. Closely follows is english. next in the list are hindi,spanish ,arabic & russian.Mandarine is spoken by most of the people of china & as they are highest in number in the world ,so why not count that as the second most important language of the world.
