Do you agree that every child should learn a second language?  

I would agree that children should learn a second language. One that is most helpful to them by definition of where they live, and what they hope to do later in life. For instance here, Spanish is the most commonly learned second language. I don't know though how old I think they should start to learn. I'd say in junior high, around the 7th grade. I think they might put more effort into it if they were older when they began learning a new language. Most schools offer courses in foreign language, but I think usually those are offered starting in high school.

Seems like a good idea. It used to be that way in the good old US too. I can remember learning some very basic spanish in grade school. I think it was good for me. I still recall some of it. It probably helped me along the way.

i think learning a second language is a good thing to have, if you know another language its always useful. But i think you should always get to choose one so you feel comfortable with it. when i was at secondary school from year 7-9 we did get a chose so we all had to do french, but i didnt want to do it, but i had to. so i didnt pay much attenction to it, but i did still some of it, which till is usfull.

I think its imperative for children to learn more than one language so they can communicate with the world better both now and in the future. The younger they learn, the better since diversity is increasingly growing.

yes, you r quite right as it has became a necessity in this world because one language you need one language to communicate with your friends and family members and called as mother tongue because it is affected by the region or atmosphere around you and second one is the language need to communicate with higher authorities and outer world

It is always a positive side to know one more language, Hence I feel a second language is always a better one. To know an additional language is always a better side for every one and if there is interest and willingness to learn it I hope it will be much better.

I think this is very systematic way of learning languages, hence, they'll learn faster and digest more in schooling. In my country, we learn to chuck everything together at the same time. So, our brain already program to do like this as you can see my profile, I don't have niche in my activities, simply shoot at what are the best topic to write. There are pro and cons with all the system set.

It is wonderful when a child learn another language different from his/her. There are times when a country does not have the opportunities there and this child can be able to go to another country to work. I have seen citizens in my country that went to another country which speak french or spanish and excel. I think that it is wonderful that they are implementing it in your's.

i think it would be awesome to teach kids a second language. i would love my kids to learn spanish. they already speak english since we live in the U.S.

I agree that it is a wonderful thing for all children to learn as many languages as they can. It's expands their horizons immensely and it's great for us to recognize that we are a Global community, as on MyLot and so it's nice to know other languages. Thank you for the great discussion.
