The best horror movies: THE OMEN (1976) |
| |
| Hi friends and mylotters! I am a big fan of horror movies! I`m nearly 36 years old, and started watching "scary movies" over 25 years ago! Now i have a very huge collection of scary and horror movies, most of them on DVD! And i am also the administrator of a small movie-forum! I think there are more people like me, interested in scary movies! So, today i just want to start a series, with the best scary movies that i have seen so far! From the classics to the new era of horror! If you are interested, read, answer, share your thoughts and just have a good time! The first movie i want to talk about is: THE OMEN (1976) The story (for those who didn`t see the movie): Gregory Peck plays an ambassador to the United States. His wife has an stillborn child. A priest offers him a newborn child which mother has died in the same night! Without the knowledge of his wife, he substitutes this baby as theirs. So the years go by they are back in england and terrible deaths begin to happen! Really strange things are happening from now on! Animals are going wild if they just see the child, the nanny of the child is hanging herself, a priest is speared to death in an awful accident and other terrible things are happening! Then it turns out the child is the son of Satan! And he can only be killed with some special artifact daggers! This movie has won/ and been nominated for many prices: - The Omen has won : Best Cinematography Award in 1976 - The Omen has won : The Oscar for "Best Music, Original Score" in 1977! - The Omen has won : Evening Standard British Film Award for the best actress: Billie Whitelaw in 1978 - The Omen was nominated for: The Oscar for "Best Music, Original Song" in 1977! - The Omen was nominated for: The Golden Scroll for "Best Horror Film" in 1977 - The Omen was nominated for: Best Supporting Actress / BAFTA Film Award in 1977 ....and many more The actors in the movie are: Gregory Peck ... Robert Thorn Lee Remick ... Katherine Thorn David Warner ... Jennings Billie Whitelaw ... Mrs. Baylock Harvey Stephens ... Damien Patrick Troughton ... Father Brennan Martin Benson ... Father Spiletto Robert Rietty ... Monk Tommy Duggan ... Priest John Stride ... The Psychiatrist Anthony Nicholls ... Dr. Becker Holly Palance ... Nanny Roy Boyd ... Reporter Freda Dowie ... Nun Sheila Raynor ... Mrs. Horton .... and others! So, now it`s your turn! - Do you know this movie? - Did you like it? - How many times have you seen it? - Do you think the movie is still scary today? Have a very nice day! | | | | | |

| | Hello, and yes that is a great movie. I have watched probably a dozen or so times. Yes it is still put the spook into people! I did want to mention one and I am not trying to take away from your very nice post by throwing garbage on it but I have to name a movie I saw a few months back. It was a Wes Craven film. Titled FEAST and there also was a second, FEAST 2. These I guess might be considered more monster films than horrors but especially the second was probably the most demented thing I have ever watched. I actually could not believe some of the things I was seeing. But anyways great post and are you familiar with these? | | | | | | |

| | Hi etan23! Ok, it`s a little bit OFFTOPIC ;) but: Yes i know "Feast"! I bought the unrated DVD! Feast was really a great movie! I enjoyed it so many times! The first part was really good...but i didn`t like the second part at all! The second part looked kind o`cheap to me! You know what i mean? The first part had more style, somehow.... | | | |

| | Yeah I know i think it was the part that involved the baby that really threw me for a loop! Especially with the music playing in the back ground was so subtle and nice! OMG but anyways | | | |

| | Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been producers/executive producers! (for the first part)! That`s a funny fact! LOL! They know what is good! So, enough offtopic! :) | | | |

| | Many have tried to copy it and IMO none have even come close. The Omen for me will always be the scariest movie I have ever seen. | | | |

| | Yes! And there was also a fourth part from 1991: "Omen 4: The Awakening"! With a girl that played the "evil child"! That movie was not good at all! | | | |

| | Yup, this is one of the best in horror movies, even now. When I saw the remake Omen 2006 (starring Lieve Schreiber, Julia Stiles), it was really nowhere as good as the original. The horror and suspense was lacking; the acting was stilted. The original Omen was very good; the boy who had acted as Damien was really creepy! | | | | | | |

| | Yeah, the little boy was really good as Damien! And i also didn`t like the remake! Thanks for your response! | | | |
