Favourite Period of History? | | I was doing some research for a project I am working on, based in the Napoleonic Wars of the 1800s, and I was just wondering, what are people's favourite period of history?
So please reply with your favourtie period, and why.
My favourite is both the Medieval Ages, and the 18th to 19 Century, because they are both periods which was very rapid in devlopment, like the middle ages was a rapid change from arrows to cannons, whereas the 18th Century was revolution, mercantilism, and a huge economic upturn.

For heroes!! The stories you read make you want to cry and the stories that make me cry are the ones i like the most.

We were actually celebrating a students birthday at the time.... That was sad. But I see what you mean by Pearl Harbour though, in the sense that it was very sad. It was all so sudden, and the saotries are all so heart-breaking! What do you think of the film, Pearl Harbour, as a remake/representation?

My favorite era is the eighteenth century...their manners and clothes...but it was dirty, and they didn't have toilets--at least not the average citizen. There was a lot of social turmoil and all, but some books have romanticized it... I also find the nineteenth century interesting for the same reasons above, add to it the Victorian era..., but again still a bit icky as cleanliness goes... If I could live in an era, I might choose the Egyptian era...I find the people interesting with their makeup use, and their jewelery wearing, and their Gods and Temples and walls of heiroglyphs....

But to be honest, if you were to venture into the slums of East London in the early 1800's, you would find it far more dangerous, dirtier and generally aesthetically unpleasing than if you were to venture into a rich, lord's manor perhaps 5 blocks away. The extremities of the era are astoundign aswell, poverty lived beside wealth in some cases.
But nevertheless, the best part of it is the Peninsular, Napoleonic and general European conflicts during the perios between about 1793 and 1830 ish. All very interesting!

Even though they left the island, the Romans stil saw it as part of their Empire, and said to the Britons that even though they were still ruled by the biggest empire in the known world, they said that they had to defend themselves, because they had no garrisons to spare for occupation.
