Blue ray is so much better. The color is a lot brighter. I watched a blue ray DVD on a PS3 and it really was so much better. I didnt think it would be that much of a difference but it really is.

I don't have a dvd player but my son does. I wonder if he prefers blue ray over the standard one. Cheers!!

First i need to tell you that a blue ray disc cannot be played in a standard dvd player and a seprate blue ray player has to be bought in for that case which costs around $400 dollars at present and a blue ray disc capacity ranges from 50GB to 500GB according to the rate and they promise that it would be better than the standard DVD and its in built with the Hi-Definition picture so it would be great but the cost of the blu ray dvd starts from around $4 dollars to $40 dollars..

In its simplest terms, Blu Ray Discs have more capacity than a regular DVD. A single-sided BRD can hold up to 25GB of storage space, while a dual layer BRD can hold as much as 50GB space. On the other hand, a regular single layer DVD only holds 4.7GB, and a dual layer one holds 8GB. This difference in capacity allows people to cram more data in a BRD. A movie for instance can be encoded to the highest possible quality and its audio tracks can be encoded at a higher quality as well, because the encoder no longer have to worry about the actual file size fitting in a single BRD. A high-definition movie for instance would range in size at more or less 15GB, that already removes the option of burning an HD movie on a regular DVD. So that's already a big difference: you can have a high-def movie in a BRD while a regular DVD can only hold a normally encoded movie.

You cannot play a BRD in a DVD player because the laser head that reads the disc won't be able to read them, in the same manner that you can't play a DVD in a regular CD drive. Laser pits that have been "burned" into a BRD are smaller (that's why a BRD can hold more data) so a DVD's laser head won't be able to recognize these smaller "pits".

I don't know the difference but I do know that you cannot play them in a standard DVD player. You need a Blueray DVD player to watch them.
