Man accused in Miss. of threat on the internet to kill President Elect Obama |
| |
| Jackson, Miss. (AP)- A Wisconsin man has been arrested in Mississippi after authorities say he threatened on the Internet to kill President-elect Barack Obama. Steven Joseph Christopher was arrested Friday by the Secret Service...and was charged with threatening to assassinate Obama for what he claimed was "the country's own good,"...a judge ordered he be held without bail until his first court appearance. http://www.wsfa.com/Global/story.asp?S=9689156 (hope that works) Well looks like it is never ending. President Elect Obama is continuely faced with assination threats and probally in due time someone will try it for real. The level of hatred for the man is akin to the pre-civil right era and that is a shame. He is not in office yet, has not laid down the first policy, has not done anything (as I can witness) that would be a threat to the country's "good" but I guess many feel he is a threat. While I don't expect the naysayers to "agree" with the guy, I am curious as to how many really sympathize with him. | | | | | |

| | It's truly sad that someone would even do such a thing. But if you are of any fame or life in the public eye it seems occurences become more common. Really people need to find better POSITIVE things to do with their time rather than meddle in foolishness. If they want to improve our nation start with your family's values and your own community!! | | | | | | |

| | Well the stupid idiot. Everyone knows it is against the law to threaten the life of the president. YOu can not say it, write it, blog it, text it or anything. The guy is getting what he deserves. Every president has had death threats or attempts on their lives. So do not make this into a "black" issue or an "Obama" issue. He is not special in this reguard. Every president has had some stupid person or people try to do them in. List of presidents assassinated Licoln Garfield McKiney Kennedy List of presidents who had attempted assassinations Jackson Franklin Roosevelt Trumen Nixon Ford Reagan G.H. Bush Bill Clinton If you want to read more on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/w... | | | | | | |

| | Did I make this a racial issue? I said the hatred was akin to the pre civil rights movement and all you named that was assinated was pre civil rights and Kennedy during. | | | |

| | Interesting list. I hadn't relized there were quite so many attempts. Says a lot about the degree of violence in our country. I'll bet the Secret Service is on pins and needles these days. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. | | | |

| | Plenty of president have been threaten or even had real attempts at killing them sense the civil rights movement. Look at the second list.... it was only luck and the secret service that saved a few of those. Reagan being one of them. He actually got shot....just not bad enough to kill him. Another country tried to kill Bush Sr. The secret service are very good at what they do and the fact that more presidents are not on the first list has more to do with the great job they do than the people of this country. Idiots try it...it is just the secret service is better at catching them and preventing it. | | | |

| | Not really enough information to go on, the article was pretty sparse and no detail is given as to why it would be for the "country's own good". I have seen plenty of posts in other forums that saw doing in Bush for the same reasons as in the best interests of the future of our country. while there are racists, always will be, many of these sentiments are not base in race but in fear of the loss of liberty and the republic. To automaticly apply racists elements to this misses the greater issues of concern. The loudest and most blatent call for revolution I saw after the elections, came from someone who was black. | | | | | | |

| | I tried to find more information and could not although there was tons on a search of assination attempts. If (and I don't doubt it) Bush recieved the same threats then this man must have posted or said something drastic to be arrested since I had not heard of anyone being arrested for threatening Bush on the Internet. | | | |

| | I'm sure what ever he said was pretty provocative, but given the climate in the coutry and the nature of this past election, there seems to be a heightened sensativity as well as a much heightened media attention to it. | | | |

| | Truthgully I don't think it matters who is president, there are always going to be people out there that don't necessarily like the choice their country had made. I don't think there has been a president yet, that wasn't threatened in one way shape or form. I think that it is all part of being in a position of power, there are always going to be people that don't think they deserve it. I just hope that people learn that Violence is not the way to solve ANYTHING! | | | | | | |

| | And so it begins. Sad that the man is not even in office yet and they are already talking presidential assasination. These fools need to realize that he has already been elected and nothing they do can change that because ultimately that is what they are trying to change. They don't have a clue as to where this presidency will take the country. (None of us really do yet) They are just steamed because this election has occurred. | | | | | | |

| | agreed, none of really know, that is the truth if ever I read it today on mylot!! The secret service has its hands full I am sure. I think Obama realizes the risk involved. I personally have a greater fear for his children. People can be very vicious and if they can't get to him they may target his children. I sure hope not. | | | |

| | I think this guy is the real threat to freedom and justice and various other values America embraced, it is better off for the country to hang him before he carry out the assassination like other loons . | | | | | | |

| | LOL, well maybe hanging him is a bit harsh but jail is where he needs to be and not loose at the inaugration. | | | |

| | People like that is very dangerous, my friend; unless you can be sure he will never escape or got release early for good behavior from America's jail, then you should expect he will definitely carry out his threat for the "good" of the country. Threatening to "assassinate" an elected president is not a joke in any sense of the word. | | | |

| | Interesting story. I was surprised racism was not the motive since, as you pointed out in another discussion, racism is very prevalent in some parts of our country. Perhaps even more surprising is that anti-semitism was his motive! This assassin-wannabe is clearly a nut-job but that doesn't diminish his potential danger. These are very tough times for US citizens, especially those who are already psychologically on the edge - several different pots ready to boil over - regrettably, this is not likely to be the final instance of someone plotting Obama's assassination. I sure hope we can continue to stop them. | | | | | | |

| | Racism is very prevalent in this country and I stand behind that statement. However this article only said he wanted to kill him for "the good of the country" and did not state race. Certainly it could elude to it. | | | |

| | I worry about him. I'm afraid some wacko will shoot him, especially with his inauguration tomorrow. I truly hope America has involved more than that, but this guy is evidence that we really haven't evolved as much as I thought and hoped. I wouldn't have liked it if McCain got elected, but I certainly wouldn't have shot him. But then again, I'm normal. | | | | | | |

| | Agreed, I didn't like McCain much and still don't but killing him is fruitless and crazy. In fact there are some things about McCain to be admired (as he demonstrated in his concession speech). Not enough to make me vote for him but I wouldn't entertain killing him either. | | | |
