Superman versus Spiderman, who would win? | | I'll choose Superman because he has tons of image. He's the American icon. He stands for truth and justice. He was so inspiring that every other hero that followed in his footsteps followed his formula (cape, silly tights, bright colors). There are tons of other heroes who are stronger than Superman (I believe that the Hulk may be), or have better powers than Superman, or in some ways, perhaps Spiderman may have a little advantage but Superman always emerges triumphant.

On the subject of money, I'm sure spiderman must be way ahead in the merchandizing race as well.

Superman is practically invulnerable, and he could take over the world if he wanted to do so, but he chooses to be a superhero instead. How can Spidey compete?
Spiderman may have the strength, agility, sense, and webbing of a spider, but he can get killed by one of the supervillians he encounters. Even if he turned evil, he would be just a super villain, not the dictator of the world.
Imagine Spiderman battling against Superman. If kryptonite is not part of the picture, then Superman would definitely win.
These two superheroes have some key points in common. Spiderman is a human being, but Superman was just raised by humans, yet they both identify with humanity. At times, both have reason to doubt the good their powers do. And both heroes sometimes use their powers for personal gain.
But beyond strength of power, motivation proves to be among the major differences between the two men. Spiderman wants to prevent another from suffering the fate of his Uncle Ben, who died at the hands of a criminal that Peter Parker could have stopped earlier, but chose not to. Superman just can't resist using his powers to save lives, and his mother is proud of that; considering how his family urged him to hide his powers to avoid detection, Clark Kent has to overcome more personal issues to become Superman than Peter Parker does to turn into Spiderman. Unlike Peter, Clark actually has to hide his alien heritage to live a normal life, and he grows up fearing that the government would want to dissect him. Personally, I see altruism as a nobler motive than guilt.
Some might argue that the invulnerable Superman is not really risking his life the way Spiderman is. Need I remind them of kryptonite, and its ability to kill Superman? Since some bad guys are aware of the mineral and its affect on the world's greatest hero, Superman can be killed.
There are some comic book fans who prefer Spidey because he's younger and more hip than Superman. All I can say about that is Superman represents the older values, and the world might be better if more people believed in those values. Truth, justice, and the American Way sure mean more than guilt, therapy, and personal glory.

| | | 20. barzales (20) | 11 months ago | I'm going to blame Superman's flaws on the time period in which he was created. All they wanted was the positive side of a hero, nothing negative. I'm not trying to take away from the men that created him or the men that have since worked on him. I'm just saying when a man can't be hurt, how brave is he really? And don't give me the green rock story and say, 'well, he can be hurt with and/or around it.' I mean really. This makes me think back to a time when people were fighting about the idea of a 'Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash' movie. People were complaining about Ash being human and saying that he should not be able to beat Freddy or Jason let alone both of them. My point was always, 'Well lets take a look back at the way most of, if not all, the Freddy and Jason movies ended. And that was with a teenage girl as the victor. A teenage girl... And they are complaining about kick-a$$ Ash not being able to hold his own. I mean come on. The same goes for Clarky-pooh. Tie that rock to the end of a baby's rattle, sit back, maybe order a Stuffed Crust, and watch that baby beat em' to DEATH!
I'm a comic nerd, so am I saying that I don't have any Superman comics in my collection? No. Sometime you need Superman, or the Hulk for that matter, to totally flip out and throw a boat at somebody. What I am saying though, is that it gets old when a man can't get hurt. Also, I know with enough punishment he can become injured (ie. Doomsday). Quick example:~ Spiderman sees an armored car being robbed and swings down to stop the gang of men, dodging the spray of gun fire and handling each man as the opportunities present themselves.~ Now, lets flip it:~ Superman sees an armored car being robbed, flies (it the speed of sound mind you) down to stop the gang of men, standing in there gun fire laughing himself pissed pants, before giving one burst of his super breath, taking the entire gang of men out.
Now listen I now there are bigger threats then gangs of armed men for Superman to worry about. But when you have to go that big every single time, every single issue, it start to lose it's flare. Immense stories start to lose their depth and shine, special events start to look a little less special. Face it, Superman is one of the grandfathers of the comic industry (I bow to that fact), but like real life, grandpas gotta die. Notice how I really didn't even touch on Spiderman? I didn't need to, to prove a point. Nuff Said.
Also, the title for this is 'Superman versus Spiderman: The Superior Superhero' not 'Who would win in a fight: Superman or Spiderman'. It's a battle over who is 'The Superior Superhero'. Not a fight between the two. But to please the people who say it's a fight here we go: Spiderman mixes kryptonite into his webbing... Spiderman wins!
