Superman versus Spiderman, who would win?

The first thing to consider when voting for either side is that it is not the film you are voting for but the fictional character, the true essence which was originally created in the comic books where both characters first appeared. Both are instantly recognizable worldwide and both could be said to be cultural icons yet it is Superman who overall seems to be the less flawed of the two characters and therefore the more worthy recipient of the superior superhero crown.

Anyway, I think I would go for the man of steel because Superman, in the eyes of the public, is adored and looked up to and with the backing of the Daily Planet continues to rise in popularity whilst Spiderman who at best is a troubled Superhero and at times nigh on a vigilante, is vilified by the Daily Bugle, the newspaper he works for as a photographer and seems at all times to be on the edge. It is for this reason that the choice of Superman as the ultimate hero was an easy one to make.

I choose Spiderman, he may not be the smartest hero, Professor Charles Xavier, Professor Reed Richards, and even Bruce Banner are quite possibly much smarter than he is. But he is among the smartest and more lovable then the rest of the intelligent heroes. Xavier was brilliant and admirable but he was more of a role model for other really cool heroes than a character to build a fan base on his own. That character was designed to sit back and let his students take the glory and only occasionally did they have issues in which all the characters showed that he was one of the most respected of all the mutants, but as I said most of his fans are distracted one one or more of the other X-men as their favorite character.

Superman's powers, though, are totally beyond us, but we can nevertheless be close to him through his humanity. The immense loss of his parents and his entire race when Krypton exploded leaves Superman uniquely alone. On Earth, he is constantly reminded that he stands apart from us. He cannot afford to let loose the full potential of his powers, lest he destroy an entire continent or accidentally crush the woman he loves. Despite the weight of his loneliness, Superman is ultimately optimistic and fiercely so about his adopted home and its people. That we can identify with a being as powerful as Superman makes him the greatest hero.

The question of Superman vs. Spiderman boils down to a comparison of power vs. cunning. Superman goes faster than a speeding bullet, is more powerful than a locomotive, so on and so forth. Spiderman can swing off buildings with web, has a beautiful lady who actually knows his secret, and has a cooler suit. Which superhero is better? My nod goes to Superman.

In the end, Superman, with his superior strength, speed, and symbolism, wins the battle versus the sleeker, practical, human super hero Peter Parker. Each character will draw his own fans, however, without Superman, would Spiderman even exist?

For battle superiority there is no contest. As in the real world man rules. When you run into a spider, you squash it. If it is the cowardly recluse type you may want to spray it with that handy Home Defense you picked up at the hardware store. When confronting a larger spider of the type of Sci Fi movies you may want to get the sprayer and load it up with Home Defense. No Problem. Even if the spider jumps you now have the artillery to gun him down. Superman, being a rational human, has the advantage of all humans over insects. His mind and inherent desire fore self preservation. Superman on the other hand is only subject to Krypton and they do not stock that at the corner hardware store.

Superman is simply the best and the original superhero.

He has a complete back story - son of Jor-l of Krypton, rocketed into space just as the planet exploded, grew up in Smallville, best friend of Batman (the only superhero without any super powers), leader of the Justice League, vulnerable to kryptonite, and so on.

Spiderman is a teenager who was bitten by a radioactive spider. And his back story is... Oh wait, that's pretty much it.

He has a secret identity, Peter Parker, but that was copied from Superman and every other superhero before him.

He has misgivings about his powers, but that was also copied from Superman.

He works for a demanding newspaper editor who yells a lot, but that was copied from Superman.

Spidey isn't even a man. He's a boy.

Superman is from another world. Spiderboy is from, what, New York or something?

It's simply no contest. Superman by a light-year.

In the strict sense of the word, Superman is the ultimate superhero. His concept is to be the ultimate man, but due to the many forms that superheroes have taken over the years, he remains the only one who embodies the concept wholly.
The ultimate man is not subject to mortality. He can't be harmed or killed - his vitality is unyielding to any blow. When Superman was first created, that meant he was bulletproof. He never got sick. He doesn't even need to breathe. Fire doesn't even mess up his hair, and ice is just another material to be broken.

Superman is without question the superior superhero. However, it depends on how you define superior. Certainly Superman has the superior superpowers. Spiderman is fantastic. They are both two of my favorites, but his powers cannot begin to compare with Superman. Superman would have to be considered the most powerful of all the superheros. The only other superheros that could match him for speed, and power is Super-girl, Mon-el, and The Silver Surfer.

The power of Superman is incredible. Superman came from a galaxy which had a red sun. The radiation from our yellow sun, changes his molecular structure and endows him with incredible abilities, including; super-speed, heat vision, x-ray vision and flight. He can fly at close to the speed of light, which means it would take him only about four minutes to reach mars, and a little over an hour to reach Saturn.

Spider-man is very powerful. we witnessed his strength when he stopped the out of control train in spider-man 3. However his strength cannot compare with that of superman. Superman has even been none to push planets, nuclear explosions have no effect on him.

Spider-man struggled in battles with Hulk, Sub-Mariner, and members of the X-men. He would be little match for superman one on one. The only advantage Spider-man would have is his spider sense, which is like a premonition of danger

Both Spider-man and Superman are among my favorite super-heroes.Both are great in their own way, but Superman certainly has the superior powers, combined with the knowledge of an advanced civilization, making him the superior super-hero.

Superman is the dominate comic book superhero of all time, he was since he was created and will be for time and memorial, after all he is - SUPER. Superman is superior from every aspect imaginable. He does not have to resort to tricks like Spider-Man to get over large buildings. Superman does it in a single bound, and Spider-Man, he has to use sticky stings that flows from a wrist band. Now how can they even be close in comparison, and that is just one example. Superman has flown around the earth and turned back time, while Spider-Man does not even have the gift of flight. Superman has a the classic "S" for superman across the front of his outfit, a cape and gets away with disguissing himself by simply taking off a pare of glasses. Spider-Man? He is covered by a silly set of tights with spider webs drawn on them, has to cover his face with a mask, and what does he do in his spare time, take pictures, where Superman has a serious job as a journalist, which takes more talent and helps in his crime fighting. Superman was not from earth originally, he was sent here after conflict on his planet blew up his birthplace, Krypton, but his parents had a purpose for his journey here, and that was to save us from ourselves. On the other hand Spider-Man was accidentally bitten by a radioactive spider. They simply are not comparable. Superman was the first to have his own award winning television show and all other comic book heros come in a distant second,following in wake of Superman.

Spiderman is Superboy! Check your old time comic books. Peter Parker is a teen working for a newspaper. The newspaper editor is a gruff guy. That's Clark Kent and the Daily Planet story. Stan Lee took Superboy and gave him Superman's job. Parker has a love and he can't tell her his true identity. That's Clark and Lois. Once you understand that Spiderman is just a knock off of Superboy, the only argument left is which is better, Krypton or bugs?

Superman is the better story. He's alien so he can live forever if you want. The villians can change but he can keep going. He can establish himself as an icon for the whole, imaginary universe. I knew Superman was the better story when I read the entire, Doomsday saga DC ran in the early 1990's. At the climax, Superman returned but as a regular guy with no powers except the ability to grow his hair like a mane. But without the abilities beyond a normal man, he was flinging himself into battles with enemies that could, literally, alter planets. The other characters around him at the time knew they were watching Superman even without the powers. Superman is the selfless, eternal pawn for humanity. Peter Parker is a teenager. He's a teenager who isn't allowed to grow up because of his makers. He's the pilfered copy of Superman. There's no point in comparing them.
