The Garmin is driving my husband crazy!  email this discussion to a friend?

Actually, he's driving himself crazy about the Garmin.

We bought the Garmin last summer, mostly for our trip out west. We were going to be renting a car and driving quite a bit so we thought it would be better than taking a dozen internet map directions with us. We also do drive around a lot to new places so it was a pretty good idea to get it anyways.

Well, when we first got it, my husband didn't want to put the little suction cup thing on the windshield because he decided that "advertised" that we had the Garmin and people would break in our car to steal it. I tried to tell him that you can leave the suction cup in there, but take the Garmin out - which we don't leave in the car once we've gotten where we're going, he even has to put it in the glove box when we are at a restaraunt to eat - or you can take the whole suction cup thing off with windshield too. So, we've been just putting the Garmin on our dash in this little ridged part and sometimes it leans up there ok so you can see it, but most of the time it doesn't. This weekend, we went to his cousins house and the whole way up there and the whole way home he's fiddling with this thing on the dash trying to get it to stand up right so he can see it all the time. He's taking his wallet and trying to wedge it up there so it'll brace it - didn't work. He's trying to angle it this way and that - didn't work. I'm just letting it go because he's being stupid. I was really just waiting for us to run off the road because he was fiddling with this thing so much and not really paying attention. Once he missed his turn because he was playing with it instead of listening to it! Eventually he said it was probably a good idea to use the suction cup thing from now on. I just wanted to say my usual line - No body listens to me! I told him this from the beginning.

We have one too..tell your husband they are getting so cheap that no one cares about stealing them anymore. Just throw it in the glove compartment. My husband has left his right on the window turned on and we have gone to eat and shop and no problem.

But my husband drives me nuts in a different way..he takes it with him where ever he goes...he takes it to work 3 1/2 miles away. He drives around parking ramps to confuse it. He can't leave the house without setting up the garmin, the radar detector, the fm transmitter on the Ipod. It takes 5 minutes before he can pull out of the driveway...he just loves gadgets.
Bt if it is the worse thing he does -- no problem.

I have a Magellean locator. I dont like it tha much. It is helpful when I need it but othewise I just let it sit there. My husband likes his on all the time but I think it is just something that I dont really need and can be confusing at times.

We use it if we're going somewhere we don't know or don't go to often. We have taken it places we've been to before and followed the directions it's given us. We've found some really nice ways to go from doing that.

Uh, yea! Doesn't that make you mad? You tell someone to do "X" then they do "Z" because they think it's better. However by doing "X" it follows the rules/manual/logic...then they try "A", "B", "Z" and lots of other things. Then they realize they should have done "X" all along. HAHAHAHAHAH w00t

Kind of like "I told you so!" Hehehehe. That's why they put the suction cups on the thing, you know?

Cheers

Pablo

Exactly! Why would they give you something for it if it wasn't really needed???

Haha... that is too funny. We have one too and I remember reading recently that the GPS's are the number one stolen thing out of cars. So, I can understand your husband's concern. With ours, we stick it in the glove box or center console whenever we are out somewhere (like a restaurant). When we are at home, we bring it inside with us. We do leave the suction cup up there.

I think he's come to realize that we can leave the empty suction cup on the windsheild. Most thieves realize that when it's empty the unit is not in the vehicle...

We have found our GPS very useful. We have used it several times when visiting other states, and frankly, it's made our trips so much more relaxing. It's nice when you have to run to the grocery in a state you don't know and you can just punch it in and it finds it and takes you there.

I did have a suction cup issue of my own though when I borrowed it and wanted to use it in my car. I had the hardest time getting that darn suction cup to stick. I tried wetting it, cleaning my window, cursing it out. Then I gave up and tried what your husband did, prop it up somewhere. But, as soon as I took my first turn it went flying. GRRRR! So I went back to trying to put that stupid cup back on the window and finally it stuck there. Why is it they make the gizmos so easy to use, but the accessories are a pain in the @#%^!@!

That's too funny!!!

It is wonderful to have when you're out on a trip. When we went to Williamsburg, we put the name of the place we wanted to eat at in the Garmin and it took us right there!!!

Surely you know you can't tell most men anything. They have to figure it out for themselves.

LOL, I know your pain. Us women, wifes or what ever we are do not know a thing. heehee
Yes I have one of those. What I do is wait till we go home and when he is not in the car I would put the suction cup holder in place and then just tell him to use it MY WAY for a while. Guess what he usually likes it. WoW I do know something.

Yup, I've had to sneak my way in there once or twice before, but sometimes it's soooo sweet when they realize it without our help that we are right :)

Thanks why I go behind his back and put the thing correctly when he is at work or not looking. IF I wait until he gets in on his own I could be old and swiveled up like a prune
