Digital or film? |
|
I love photography. I started with film thinking I would never go digital, but I was wrong. I love digital as much as film now because of the flexibility and how creativity is unlimited. But I love the nostalgic feeling film brings and the quality of a film as well. I like digital for its convenience and I see it as an art of its own aside from film photography. Which do you prefer and why?

1. MonkOVision (936) | 12 months ago | I have no photographic skills whatsoever, so I prefer digital for convenience sake. I find it easier to carry and exchange the little cards in the camera then it is to carry film. I would like to try my hand at manipulating digital photos.
I do think that film photography is quite an art form.

earthmother (338) | 12 months ago | Yes film is great, it's an amazing and fulfilling experience but everything is costly and not too good for the environment. I know digital is taking over but I hope film is here to stay forever, even if it's one person that continues it.
I know what you mean about the little cards, compared to rolling up the film! What type of camera do you use?

2. EvrWonder (1140) | 12 months ago | Great discussion, thank you for the post. I am an avid photographer and love taking pictures. I love photography, both film and digital. I used to shoot with film before I went digital too. I loved the film because of the diversity in the different types. As well as paper for processing, which can also change the effect. I found however, the cost of processing was very costly. In comparison. My camera started acting up. The motor failed to wind. I was going through films, taking them in only to find that they never advanced. The camera went for service and I have barely used it since. Now I am all digital. I like it just fine. I sometimes miss the film camera. It was a canon, same as my digital now but digital just isn't the same. I like how I can download the pics, take my card to photo processing and is a lot less in cost than processing the film, that's for sure. I like my photos in digital format. If I want to I can resize, crop and or manipulate, which is very cool. Digital is indeed an art in itself as appose to film photography. I just love pictures, no matter whether film or digital. I love taking pictures. With the way digital cameras are advancing, i am excited about upgrading someday.

earthmother (338) | 12 months ago | Yes, it is costly! But yes, film did bring out the excitement of being "one of a kind" you couldn't really make it exactly the same, when you shoot a photo, and then develop them. That's what makes it really fascinating! But yes digital is something that has many stages and changes, and that's what makes digital great! I guess it's really not to be compared.:) But like you said, no matter what, I love photography too! Do you like color or black and white?

EvrWonder (1140) | 12 months ago | I have a major weakness for black and white but color has it's purpose also. You are right that film vs digital really can not be compared. I love it all. I like the simplicity with digital though. The digital cameras are getting better and better too, so we can still manually shoot, just minus the film and old school processing. I do miss the film camera though. Was so much fun! Maybe again one day. Thank you for your comment. Cheers.

3. Zaphan (261) | 12 months ago | Digital camera is great but we can't just forget the film.. digital pictures can be edited in computer.. this is great for those who are creative in terms of picture editing... and has the ability to use photo editor skillfully...I also love to edit pictures but my problem is I don't have a Digital cam... I wish to have one!

earthmother (338) | 12 months ago | Yes we can't forget film! You can still edit photos from film by scanning it and editing it on photoshop:)
| |
|
|
Zaphan (261) | 12 months ago | nope.. I think when you scan the photo from a film the resolution of the photo is not 100% pure... unlike digital cam you can easily transfer it into a computer with still 100% resolution...

| 4. biancosarti (18) | 12 months ago | I use both. The digital is convenient, fast and less expensive, but the beauty and detail of a black and white film in medium format is unparalleled! I have discovered recentrly the film and I must say that the difference can be seen, and much!
particularly, the film has a more flexible and a better balance of light and shade than the digital sensor.
also as the priceless feeling that you have to dipping a white sheet into a bowl and slowly looking up your photo!

earthmother (338) | 12 months ago | Yes, waiting for the results on a film photo is that much more fulfilling than a digital I think cause of the time and work it takes. There's lots of special qualities in film!

5. saichandtalluri (1362) | 12 months ago | i Prefer digital because in digital we can erase after copying the photos to our computer and use that source again but in film the acctual film get waster and even film is much costly.

| |
|
|
earthmother (338) | 12 months ago | That's very true, it's faster results and less paper and chemicals to waste, but sometimes it doesn't bring the quality of a film photo. But digital is definitely a special art form of its own!!

| 6. ofrockwood (51) | 12 months ago | I've only been taking pictures for two years... and I have to say, I prefer digital.
Digital is much more convenient. I don't need to buy film and all I have to do is plug in my camera to the computer to download the images. I don't need to get the pictures put on a CD. Not only is it less work, it's less time.
But the film cameras do have their advantages.
