Exploding Cupcakes?

Explodamatic cupcakes! No wonder the cake mix was on sale!

No, I've never heard of that before. How aggravating is that. My guess would be it was the cake mix, although since they weren't baking evenly your oven might not be working correctly either. A lot of time mixes will have a website or phone number or both: I'd be tempted to contact the cake mix manufacturer and explain what happened and see if they have any ideas. You should at least get your money back for the mix -- then go to your local bakery or get some Hostess cupcakes or something to satisfy your craving.

I have never experienced exploding cupcakes. I am glad to hear that you were not injured. Was it noisy, or did you only discover it when you checked on them?

Even worse, I am sorry that your cake craving hasn't been satisfied. Is there any cake salvagable? Perhaps you could lick the pan or the inside of the oven when it cools?

If you had made these from scratch, I would have suspected too much baking powder. I suppose that this particular mix may also have the same problem. I would look for a 1-800 number on the box and alert the company to this. They will more than likely send you some coupons. They appreciate calls like that so they can have better quality control. They also may be able to tell you why such a thing would happen.

wow, what a mess! i would try contacting the company that made the mix because it may have happened to someone else and they may refund your money.
i (i know this sounds gross) found a bug in a dried cup of soup mix, so i called the company and they send me several coupons to get some packages for free.

WOW! I dunno what the heck happened. What an awful mess to clean up. I'm so glad I now have a self-cleaning oven. I hated that job.

Sounds like the oven wasn't working properly if only one side was cooking. But ovens only have 2 elements, top and bottom. I think they only cost around $20 - $30 depending on which one you buy. Maybe it needs new ones. Or check the fuses in it, too. Although I couldn't tell you where to look for them.

Maybe you could make up some choc. chip cookie dough and only try and cook half the mix. Test the oven out again. If they don't cook, so what you can eat the dough anyway.

I never actually heard of that happening before. I think that you should be able to do something about that. I would call the company and let them know what happened. it sounds like something really crazy that went on and the company should probably recall the product.

I have never heard of that happening before...it's very interesting! I have seen in happen with one of those little dessert things you put in the micro wave but never something that was in the oven! I would call the company!

I've never had that experience before - and I've never heard my baker aunt relate such similar stories. Have you checked the ingredients to see what was amiss? Maybe something was really wrong with it.

That's terrible! I would defentally call, because they shouldn't explode... and what a mess that probably caused! I'm sorry you have to clean all of that!!

I have never had that happen though I have had them start puffing out really big and then cracking and by the time they were cooked there was a large whole in the center and the rest of it was all puffed out and they were all cracked. They tasted the same but there was no way that I would have brought them out anywhere for anyone to see my crazy cupcakes that looked like my five year old had made them in the microwave with her cupcake maker!!
