Sorry your little son has autism dawn. That is good though the way he is getting on. He really has done very well. I am sure he is doing well with your help though, as you seem to be great with your kids from all the little things I see you writing about them. I am sure he will progress even more.

I do not know a lot about the illness, but it looks quite difficult to handle for some parents (on TV) but I guess all the children are different. I am really glad the meeting went well yesterday and I wish Cary all the best for the future.

That is sooo wonderful, Dawn! How old is Cary? You have written so many things about your kids here. All the things they do to crack you up or amaze you! I think your family life has a lot to do with his progress. You should be commended for being a great mom!

It is good to hear that Cary is doing well with his IEP. Sometimes all it takes is that little bit of extra effort. Good job to him and to you and your husband for working with him.

I am so happy for you, my friend. I have a son with learning disabilities so I now what a stress it can be. Anyway, this son is now married to a math brain with her masters who is considering doing her PHD. Yet she sees in my son the wonderful qualities that he has. You must be overjoyed with this great report on him. You are a good mother and I hope that his progress continues. Blessings

That's awesome Dawn! I never could do word problems. You know what I had to do? I had to sketch them out, that helped loads. Each of us learns in a different manner and what's "normal" anyway? Not me!

Those are a couple of sites that may help y'all. They are tests to see HOW you learn. You may have to help him with it, but you know him well enough, I bet. It might be fun to take it together and see. Who knows it might help both of you to understand him better.

That's great news about your son. I used to work in a school that had a special educational needs department and the SEN teachers and teaching assistants did really fantastic work with the kids that needed extra help. There was a large number of pupils that were on the autistic spectrum but they all had extra help and they were some of the hardest working kids in the school. At the end of each year the SEN kids had their own presentation evening to celebrate their achievements during the year. I'm sure your son will achieve great things within his capabilities and make you proud of him, given the support he is getting from home. He's very lucky to have such a loving and supportive family.
