I need help with an idea for my story...

Maybe one or both of the characters could have gotten married to be able to leave home for some reason? That's the only other reason I can think of off the top of my head.

I think financial reasons are the most convenient but people also get married for companionship. I think either of those reasons would be good. People also get married because they have a commonality of interest. In lots of cases they are
just getting married because they have a need for some to the above things.

I have an idea, I am not too sure if it is original. However it just flash across my head. I think I might have seen a movie of something similar, however I really cannot remember. So do not flame me if there is already a movie about it.

Single mother wants to get child to a good, reputed shool which places highly on family values. So Single parents are not suitable canidates for the school acceptance.

Single male (likely asia because of value) is being rush by family to get married due to father's ailling health. Chinese believe it brings luck.

Is your story contemporary? If so, reasons for marriage of convenience could be coercion (male induced--I'll tell police I saw/know you killed someone, extorted money, etc.); economically induced (woman is poor and man turns out to be physically/sexually abusive, on the downlow (homos*xual), a bigamist with a tendency towards murder but she's a survivor and turns the tables); romantic spin (man secretly loves woman who doesn't care much about him. He marries what turns out to be a jealous, devious b*itch but towards the end she has a twin (thought dead or whereabouts unknow perhaps) who comes into the picture and kills her devious sister and takes her place--now story can go in a different, unexpected or more romantic direction (twin would have to be alluded to throughout story--can't just spring her upon readers all of a sudden (this could work in the reverse with the arriving twin being the devious one wrecking havoc on the unsuspecting male); I'll give you X amount of money if you'll marry me and pretend to be the (devoting wife but ends up...?)....

If it's the Georgian, Regent, Victorian and related eras...such marriages were common but a theme that would need an interesting twist to appear fresh...Perhaps throw in a bit of homos*xuality or perversion, excessive womanizing and it is her response that makes the story...does the wife become embittered and seeks his ruin? How would that ruination come about? False claims of sexual perversion, does she manipulate a person in high social circles and thereby set her husban up as the perpertrator? This can be done in contemporary terms.

Think of some of your favorite movies. What could be changed to make it more exciting? How would placing a story plot/theme into a different locale or era change the essence of it? Are contemporary plots more racy if situated in the middle ages or Roman Days?

How about beautiful, desirable woman forced to marry a member of a religious clergy who is handsome but staunchly religious and sexually and emotionally repressed. She sets about (out of boredom, no doubt) seducing him and it succeeds, only to have the deed (immediately or after a period of time) backfire om her in some way. In the 17th, 18th centuries she would be tied to a stake and burned alive (would make a rather dramatic climax).

You can get story ideas from current events or from reading about past (historical) events. Try Wikipedia.org/Google and key in certain words like spousal murder or debauchery and see what comes up! Good luck, katran!

well there are several reasons for wanting to get married. for women, a lot of them just feel that at a certain point of their lives, they would want to settle down and and have children. it is rather biological because after a certain age, women can no longer bear children, and after a certain age, there are risks, even if they can be able to bear children. risks for them and their children.

and of course, for some women, they would want to be taken care of, and they assume that marrying will give them somebody to take care of them. while for others, well, it is just the need to love someone and to take care of someone else.

i am married. i wanted to settle down already. i was 32 when i got married.

but thankfully, i am very happy that i got married. it would have been different if i had not been. i am happy that i did.

How about two couples wherby the cultural grounded parents of the young female do not agree to the young male their daughter wishes to be married to, the parents try to keep them apart, yet the young couple are deep in love with one another and to enforce so to say their will and relationship unto the cultural grounded parents they get married leagally yet in secrete only revealing after some time to the parents what thier current position is in that relationship

It used to be for business reasons. So maybe the young woman's father's business is going bankrupt, and so the father pressures her to marry the son of the business owner who is trying to drive out her father. She really cannot stand the son, he is an inconsiderate oaf, but she marries him, and they both hate each other, but after some thing that you can think of, they make a go of it and fall in love.
She could the daughter of a member of the Russian mafia and this rookie cop offers her a marriage of convenience because he knows some powerful people in the FBI who can protect her.
She is a bad girl, and she needs witness protection, and the FBI agent guarding her is pretending to introduce him to his family as his fiance, but then his mother wants a wedding, and before you know it, they are married. You can make this a comedy, make her sort of a floozie, and the other gangsters make mistakes. You can also make this in the 1920s or 1930s.
There are three ideas.

have anyone suggested sexual convenience? maybe one of the character was married and have kids, another no kid unmarried and young. both of them are financially stable they do not want more kids.? maybe one of them could be financially not good maybe the young one. hmmmm hope my suggestion help. the little young one sound like a leech then:P
