| We got a 13 week old puppy from the pound. She looks completely Dachshund, better known as weiner dogs. I don't know her history if she is mixed or not, but I don't care. I love her so much already and have only had her three days. She is so sweet. I am training her to sleep on her bed. Which she does then jumps up on my daughters bed in the middle of the night. lol Who knew a long short puppy could jump that high. House training is working better than I thought. She has had accidents but not many. I just want to say, try the pound for dogs and puppies before buying. Some of those dogs will be put to sleep, killed, for nothing more than just being born. When we are ready for another pet we are going to the pound. And on a last thought, don't just go once, go a couple of times, until you find the right dog that fits in with your family. Don't just pick one for the sake of taking something home. We have been looking for about 3 months. Next we are going to try and find another pet rat. My oldest moved out and took her rat with her. Who knows maybe the pound will have one looking for a new home. The pound has all kinds of animals. Ok, now I am going to do a happy dance. :) | | | | | |

| | i thibk it is better to give a dog or puppy a second chance of a home from a place like this than going and buying a puppy from a breeder as they are always so greatful for there second chance | | | | | | |

| | I agree. We took her to the pet store to get some more supplies and she got so nervous. She hasn't done that anywhere else. She heard other dogs barking and got really scared. I think she might have thought we were sending her away. She has heard other dogs in our neighborhood and has been fine. With breeders its about the money, but the pound its about life and death. | | | |

| | How great that 1) you got a puppy and 2) you were kind enough to get one from the pound. We have two dogs that were strays. Both had been abused then left for dead. They are great dogs and I truly think dogs know and remember when you save them. I don't know if the pound has rats, but I do know our local pound has guinea pigs. If you've never had a guinea, you're a rodent person, and they don't have any rats, you might want to consider getting a guinea pig. They're very intelligent, quite loving, and often are friendlier than rats. Just a thought. Anyway, congrats on the Dachsy! Our first dog was a dachshund, and he was terrific. You're right, though -- they sure can jump! | | | | | | |

| | My oldest daughter had a fancy rat and she was wonderful with my kids, but she belonged to my oldest daughter who just moved. So we are gonna get another one for my 5 year old. She is begging and crying. But I didn't think at all Sally, our puppy's name, could jump that high. She jumps on the couch, the recliner, and where she wants to get. She needs help getting down. Anyway, we have been saving money to get a doberman pincher. My parents raised them when I was growing up. I think we are going to put that on for awhile. I guess I got a dobie that is short. lol I will get a dobie sometime in my life time, but right now it is all about Sally. By the way, my 2 year old name her. She refused any other name, and our puppy answered to it and no other name. So Sally it is. :) | | | |

| | I got my dog which is mostly a dauschund from the shelter also. He does have slightly longer legs though so I think he is mixed with soemething like a terrier. he has been a pretty good dog but he does like to bark alot and can be nasty at times, he overall is sweet though and loves to travel in the car. Best wishes with your dog. | | | | | | |

| | Our dog has really short legs. She hasn't barked yet. She has wined when we leave her in a room alone. And she loves being any where we are. She for such a young pup realizes that my 9 month is a baby. She will climb on us jump and play but she won't jump on baby. She just will lick him or lay next to him. It's kind of neat that I didn't have to train her to be cautious around him. Now of course the baby and dog are never left alone together. But even my two year old she doesn't jump up on. The older kids and me she can get so excited and jump up in our lap and such. I think it is really great that you got your dog from the pound. I am a believer now. And thank you for the response. | | | |

| | Congratulations on your new family member! I live in a dorm, so no pets here buy I have two pups at home waiting for me to graduate. I have some friends here that live in an apartment that also got a Dachshund from the pound. Chubs is a hyper little thing but I think he is more like a year old, maybe a year and a half. He loves to get attention and is a sweetie. I really don't like the pound we have around here as they don't take in a lot of animals at one time and so the pets don't have a very long time before they are put down. :( They either need to make it bigger, or maybe pass them down to the next town over. | | | | | | |

| | I got our new family member from a country pound. They don't have alot of resources for people to adopt pets. The county I live in has the pets in pet stores, malls, adopt fairs, etc. But the other county has a very small shelter, no perks like the other one. I had to drive 45 minutes away close to mountains and I am scared of mountains. lol I think people in general need to be more responsable for their animals. It isn't animals fault how and why they became into being. And my kids have a sense of pride, because they know that they saved our dogs life. There were three other siblings of our dog still there. Not to mention the other dogs their that need new homes before being put down. | | | |

| | Hi. That is great to hear you adopted one from the pound. I also adopted 2 from the spca. I feel it make you feel so good inside just to know you rescued and animal, and gave her a chance on a good and loving life. She is so happy to have a home now of her own. | | | | | | |

| | Congratulation on getting a dog. Be sure to get her spayed as soon as a vet agrees to do it. Some places will do it at 13 weeks, others won't. It depends on the setup of the vets surgery. | | | | | | |

| | We have 30 days to get her spayed by adoption law. It is so funny but sad, but 2 people ask me to breed her for puppies. If she were adopted or not I would say no. I adopted her because I felt she would fit easily in my family and would be a family member. I don't want to breed her. My stepfather and mother bred dobermans and I saw what our female dog went thru over and over and over. She will be spayed in 3 weeks. | | | |

| | 30 days is reasonable if they do early spay/neuter in your area. Not ever vet does it. It must be done before she can get pregnant to prevent more births and consequently more deaths. I'm trying to convince my vet to start doing it on very young animals. It's amazing people ask you to breed her. Don't they know how many dogs get killed in shelters due to lack of homes? Even pure bred dogs get killed because there are no homes. I have a problem with 99.99% of people who breed. The only one I have met in my town who maybe should breed is my groomer. She has a room full of best in show ribbons and trophies. Her dogs are proven to spectacular specimens and yet she might only breed one of her dogs once every few years. I have never seen her with a pregnant dog. | | | |

| | I always got my dogs out of the pound. Except my last dog. My ex got her from the people across the street from us. She was the cutest, then I found out I had to pay $300 for her. She was a Chow. I wasn't to happy about that but I already fell in love with her. She's in Kitty Heaven for the last 3 years now. She liked to chase cats so I told her she'll go to Kitty Heaven. | | | | | | |

| | Aww she's a cutie. I once had a weiner dog named Pug. If we left him home alone he got lonesome and hid behind the couch when we came in the house. He was more of a dark brown. Our family had so much love for him and he was a character. | | | | | | |

I have one of them for 12 years and the other one for 2 years now. If I had not let them stay they may have ended up in the pound. I live in a small town dogs don't get out of the pound here. I hate that I am a dog person. Oh yea I have a potbellied pig now also. LOL | | | | | | |
