is suicide on the increase?

This is such a sad story. One of the local radio newscasters pointed out yesterday that this is the fourth such kind of story that he's covered since October. I think that this is the first time though that a suicide note has indicated that the reason for the murder/suicide is because both the individual and his wife lost their jobs. There were a couple of suicides linked to the Madoff scandal. I'd like to say that I think that we've seen the last of this but I don't think that is the case.

I believe that it is. Because there is a lot of people losing their jobs and they feel that there is no hope. So they that take the route of no return. Which is sad.

I heard about the story last night. It's sad that they saw this as a last resort to taking care of their families. I think if my husband would have lost his job I'd file for aid from the county. Whatever I got would be good and if I couldn't keep the house then I'd find a place where we would all be together. It's sad when people think suicide is the answer to what is happening in the economy. We are all going to go through something like this.

I believe so yes.
People lose all hope, and don't know what to do.
Sometimes it can be very difficult.
Bills that you cannot pay, you can't go out anymore.
Everything costs money, and then you find yourself all
alone.

For some, that is just no why to live.
They choose the easy way out.

But, is it really so easy???
Who knows for sure what is waiting on the other side???

I think that this is because people have lost their moral compass, that they no longer look up to God, and also I expected this even if the economy was not bad. It seems that in the United States, people believe that if the birth parents are the only ones able to raise their children and if the father decides to kill the mother, he might as well kill the children as well because no one in the whole universe would want them. Screwed up values.
I wonder if when the Depression was on whether murder suicides were common or whether they were rare. Someone should look into that. There has always been up times and down times and most have lived through them. Killing yourself and murdering your family is taking the coward's way out. There is help and one can help oneself, but selling their house, moving into a smaller place, for instance, having a garage sale, etc. picking up cans, delivering papers. I could go on.

It's sad that anyone would do this to their own family just because of financial problems. Give it time! He probably didn't even try to go find another job! What the heck is this world coming too?!

What a terrible thing to have happen,no one should get in this state.There are a lot of desperate souls out there at the moment.It is an awful thing to say but in times of depression and bad economic climate these things tend to happen more frequently.People get to the end of their teither and snap.Something goes in their minds and common sense flys out the window and in a culture where guns are freely available instead of having a gun to protect your family it is the thing that destroys the family it is such a shame,and the more provision should be made for mental illness in these terrible times drop in centres for desperate people who just need to talk and discuss their feelings,it is a sad world for some.and my heart goes out to those who are left behind to have to face the actions of a loved one.

HI. I believe it is because of no jobs, places shutting down, prices going up. I saw that story on the news, about the husband and wife, loosing there jobs, and what he did. It was so sad to be watching the news and hearing that. Not only his life but his wifes, and all his children, they did not even get a chance in life.

I think it is much more than the economy. People just aren't happy with their lives anymore. The culture is that we always need more. More money, more education, better cars, all things that would be nice to have, but aren't something we'd die without. People start thinking other things will make them happy: when I get married I'll be happy, when I get that promotion I'll be happy. And to be honest, I think people need the Lord. He's drawn me back from the brink many a time.

A financial crisis can be devastating. I would not commit suicide but I have to admit in times of financial hardship it has crossed my mind. My father committed suicide for that very reason. He was $250,000 in debt when he died. The problem was though that he left his children to pick up the shattered pieces. People don't realize when they commit suicide the legacy they leave to others.
