What does the expression "OK" stand for?

Try the wikipedia page for okay... it basically says no one is sure, but lists the diffrent theories (it could be from an Indian word, from an African word, or short for "Oll korrect" (all correct)). No one knows for sure.

Wow...that's a good question. I don't know that O have ever heard or read what the letters stand for.

LOL..that's a good question. Those little ones can certainly keep you on your toes. I really can't say what it stands for. It's just one of those words we grow up hearing and use it automatically. I don't think it has an actual meaning.lol

I have heard that the expression, OK (Okay)
started back in the late 1800's.

There was a man at a warehouse that was in
charge of checking each of the crates that
were being shipped out.

He was told to write "All Correct" on each box
that was up to standard and ready to be shipped.

He was not literate. So he wrote OK as in "Orl Korrect".
Of course, that's not the way to spell "All correct", but
he didn't know the correct spelling.

Anyway, the boxxes shipped out to various parts of the
country. And, when people inquired about the meaning
of the word "OK" on the box, they were told that it meant
"All correct".

And, it kind of stuck.
That's the story I heard anyway.

something to do with stuff in the USA being stamped o.k. for use of USA troops in WW11. I used to know but have forgotten. sorry

I use it for many different reasons.
1. ok, I will
2. ok, your nuts
3. ok, whatever
4. ok, I understand

It just depends on how you express it or the tone you use when saying the word that depends on the meaning of it at that time.

OK (Okay for long) would mean ALRIGHT...It is an informal word as an expression of saying I get your point or am not convinced, but i do not want to hurt your feelings. It is also an expression to avoid an argument or when you are speechless to what the other person have said.

That is how I understand it. That is how people make use of such word.
