President Obama takes responsibility for Daschle  

Amen Anniepa!! Thanks for replying. President Obama is a man of integrity. He said his administration would be transparent and he let it begin with himself.

Correct!! He is proving he has integrity and is man enough to admit a wrong. I applaud him. Thanks.

That's a load of crap. Obama CHOSE Geithner. He CHOSE Daschle. He CHOSE Killefer. Nobody MADE him do this. He BRAGGED about his rigorous vetting process. He BRAGGED about how he would "change" Washington. He PROMISED that lobbyists would not find jobs in his administration. He even posted information about his vetting online for people to see.

He FAILED to properly vet these people. McCain was treated like a pariah for supposedly not vetting Sarah Palin properly. All she did was fire an incompetent Public Safety Commissioner. At least she paid her taxes.

I give Obama credit for admitting he screwed up. Now it's time to fix his screw up by firing Tim Geithner, the only appointee arrogant enough to take the job despite considering himself above the tax laws.

Just saying, these guys should have been properly vetted a long time ago, so Obama was not the only one who missed it. Look at it this way. You drop your car off at a certified auto mechanic. Turns out he is a terrible mechanic and can't fix your car. Is this your fault? Sure you should have done a little more independant research, but hey the guy was already certified by people who should know better, so it is not an unreasonable assumption that he would know how to fix cars.

The same is true here. These guys had been working within the system for a long time and should have been picked up long before. Now that they have been picked up it is Obamas responsability to deal with them, but not necisarily his fault that they were tax cheats. Now if he doesn't deal with them properly. THEN it will be his fault.

Perhaps what he meant was that he screwed up by choosing people who withdrew. He didn't specifically say "I screwed up by appointing tax cheats". See, he's a smooth talker. You have to listen to what he DOESN'T say as well.

In all fairness, I don't think what Daschle did is actually "tax evasion". In both cases they DID pay them, albeit late. Anyway, how I would have loved to have heard those words from Bush at any time in the past eight years but he hasn't taken full responsibility for a single mistake.
