| First Lady Michelle holds meeting with HUD  | | | |  The people at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have a critical role to play in our economic recovery, the First Lady told the staff of the Dept. during a visit there yesterday. "At times like these, and we know there are hard times, there's so many families who've lost their homes, and millions are struggling to keep up with their mortgages," Mrs. Obama said. "You know this firsthand. You and your colleagues are going to be asked to do even more, that's for sure. It's of critical importance that we stem the tide of foreclosure and find a way to keep people in their homes."

HUD strives to increase homeownership, support community development and increase access to affordable housing free of discrimination. HUD works with many faith-based and community organizations to ensure safe, decent and equal housing opportunities.
First Lady Obama is passionate in her endeavers to assist military families and homeowners keep their homes. She has not yet set an official "agenda" but she has said she will focus attention to families.

| |  It is sad that so many are in trouble with their mortgages. And if HUD can help some that is great, but it is not the government's job to provide housing to the masses. Too many simply borrowed more than they could pay back. Some of course are in trouble because they have lost jobs. My brother-in-law lost his job about 5 months ago. They are trying to get their house ready to put on the market. They will not wait for a government bailout to keep them in their home. They will take responsibility for themselves.
