valentines ....just for lovers ?  

That is such a thoughtful thing to do, I bet you really made a lot of people's days.

I do think of it for a day of love, not just with a spouse or what not, but for family as well, but it mostly is for couples and I myself have not had the best of many valentines days. I haven't been able to really "celebrate" it for a long time. It just reminds me of how single I am.

This year will be different, I have the love of my life, a little boy of one, so I will have a day full of love, last year he wasn't able to show me much of anything, but now, he can and I can't wait to spend the day with just us, I'm going to treat him out to breakfast :D.

Valentine's Day is just another day for us - in fact, I never realise it's come until they mention it on the news, usually in relation to how much money the country spent on flowers! There are so many other days to remember and to celebrate - what with birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc., there are not too many months in the year without something. So, I'll be ignoring it as usual!

Valentine's day is celebrated in honor of St. Valentine, an ancient priest in Italy who was imprisoned at the instigation of Claudius "the cruel" because he secretly officiated weddings among lovers, this was prohibited by Claudius because he wanted men to join his army and not marry. But even in prison, Valentine was still performing the matrimonial sacrament to lovers who secretly approached him until he was executed for high treason.

So it means that Valentine's day is a special commemoration of St. Valentine who sacrificed his life because of his mission and not because the day is exclusive for lovers. Meaning we have to celebrate this day as a remembrance to all the sufferings of St. Valentine by treating each and every one with a special gesture of affection and love, whether you are lovers or just merely friends. We have to celebrate this to extend to every people in our circle that they are special, our parents, friends and love ones they are the people who composed our circles.

I do almost the same thing back when I don't have A girlfriend yet, I would give my single girl friends a whole pack of chocolates to be shared amongst them. Just wanted to say to them thank you for the friendship.

For me, valentines day is not only for lovers... it's the day of loving each other not only for valentines day, but everyday.. but this special day is the day of all people who loved each other.. yes, we can see most lovers are going out this day, but all has the right to spend time with their loved ones, have a family bonding, going to mall, go to cinemas, have a nice dine in.. share flowers to parents..it makes that day so special not only for lovers but to our loved ones.. have a velatines day to all...

when i was younger (in my teen years).. i would always look forward to this day. definitely, the magic moments with a special one, what to do, where to do, everything would be very special.... however, when you get to experience more in life, your perspective would broaden and there would be more to see than just that. valentines day is just being commercialized, to sell more flowers, to sell more gifts, etc. its being exaggerated. it could be a lover's day everyday! to show our love and care to our love ones, we need to manifest it everyday. but it there's really a special day for love, then we should not confine it to partners, couples, etc. but also for friends, for sisters, for parents, .... spread love! :)

i don't think valentines is only for lovers its for every body, its a time of sharing and showing love to your love ones. so you can show it in a ways you like it, tell your love ones how much you care and love them.

I don't think so. I is for all the people who are capable of loving and accepting the love others are giving them. It is not only for couples but for families, friends, relatives and many form of relationships.

I am in agreement with Ur thought.I feel more than a 'lovers' day', it is a 'love-day'.It is an opportunity for us to spread the message of Love to all.Specially those who are deprived of it.An orphanage,an old-age-home for examples.V.day can spread the SMILE to many, who are in search of LOVE in life.
