Jessie Jackson Jr Is Campaigning For Big $$$ In Chicgo- On Heels Of FBI Probe

Less than two months after becoming embroiled in the scandal that brought down Gov. Rod Blagojevich for allegedly trying to sell a U.S. Senate seat, U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. is resurfacing. And he's looking for money.
Jackson's campaign fund announced a fundraiser as part of an annual roast in which comedians and pols are expected to jokingly excoriate the South Side congressman. The campaign described the event as a "RO@$t."Given the prominent use of a dollar sign, it's plausible that at least a few of the roasters will try to make light of the fact that Jackson (D-Chicago) was identified by numerous media outlets, including the Tribune, as "Senate Candidate 5," a significant character in the criminal charges brought against Blagojevich.
After Blagojevich's criminal complaint was released, the Tribune reported Indian-American businessmen had discussed donating to the governor to aid Jackson's Senate bid. The event, attended by Blagojevich, was held the same day the then-governor was secretly recorded saying an emissary from Jackson could come up with $1 million in campaign donations if he name Jackson to the Senate seat President Barack Obama was vacating.
The businessmen held a fundraiser for Blagojevich on Dec. 6 in Elmhurst featuring appearances by Blagojevich and Jonathan Jackson, the congressman's brother. A sponsor of the event was Raghuveer Nayak, a major Blagojevich fundraiser with close ties to the Jackson family. Nayak, 54, is the owner of several outpatient surgery clinics, has business ties to Jonathan Jackson and has long been friendly with the congressman's father, Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Jackson has acknowledged he did indeed have a close relationship with Nayak but said he wasn't aware of any scheme regarding fundraising and the Senate seat. He has denied any wrongdoing.
The roast, scheduled for March 21, is supposed to feature comedian J. Anthony Brown and will cost $200 per ticket or up to $2,000 for a table for 10 with a "VIP reception and autographed photos."Jackson has invited an A-list of pols to the event, including Democratic U.S. Sens. Richard Durbin and Roland Burris, who eventually got the seat Jackson was coveting, Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk, and Mayor Richard Daley, who's had a long-running feud with Jackson despite last year's hugfest between the two at the Democratic National Convention.
