Sperm and Egg Donations  

I feel that it is weird myself. I don't think I could ever do it because I would still feel like the baby was mine. I mean it would be half and I don't know it's just weird.

I don't think I could donate my egg. I wouldn't like to know that there could be the possibility that there may be a baby out there that has my dna. I would want my child if I ever knew they used my egg for someon. But that could go because I can't have anymore kids so if someone was to use my egg I would want my baby.

I have read some things about egg donation before. It pays decent I hear. About $5000 for a procedure. It is not the most comfortable thing either though. I don't know that I would be able to do it.

It worries me with all of these donations. How do I know my daughter would not marry a close family member, even a brother, if my husband or I had donated our eggs/sperm years ago?

I understand why people do it but I also feel it is like playing with fire.

At my age, I don't have to worry about wanting to do it, nor have I done it. It really doesn't bother me to have someone else do it either. The only concern I have is not wanting the eggs to be fertilized and having the resulting fetus used to any kind of research. There are other viable ways to get stem cells and other biological matter for research purposes.
We all share DNA with all of our ancestors who came before us, and it's very likely that we've all passed unknown relatives on the street without knowing it. My best friend in junior high school turned out to be my third cousin. We found out when our biology class was doing a project on family trees. My son's best friend in high school looked enough like him to be a brother, although I've only had one child. In his lifetime, I know that my garndfather on my dad's side 'ran around' a lot, so there could be a relation there somewhere. And, I now live in Oklahoma, where I don't think any of my previous family has come, yet there is some one here who I've been mistaken for on several occasions (I haven't seen her myself though). There's also a store clerk here who looks enough like one of my Florida cousins to almost be twins.
So in summing up the original question, I guess it doesn't bother me.

First of all, I think there are enough children out there who are up for adoption in this country and others, that there is no need for a man to donate sperm or a woman to donate an egg. Most of the time it is done for money, but not always. Still there are enough children out there without people resorting to this. If you think about it, it allows for the opportunity (if I may call it that) of brothers and sisters marrying each other without knowledge of it. I also would not feel comfortable with the idea that I might have children out there and not know it. For those who do it for money, there are other ways to do so. Your sperm and egg are a very private part of you. Have respect for it. You don't know if that part of you went to someone would abuse that child.

I don't think I would have ever done it....nope not even on a chance or for payment. I would feel too odd and I love kids and I guess I would always be in crowds looking around to see if I saw anyone that looked like one of my other! LOL

I myself would never donate any eggs, but I have thought about being a suggorte mother before. There are a lot of rules to it and I would have some problems giving the baby away that I carried for 9 months. I have thought about having my boyfriend donate sprem. I mean it would be kinda of odd but hey it would be a little bit of cash we could have. I appericate you sharing this and you have sparked some ideas for me as well. Happy mylotting

First, I have LOUSY genes and I chose to remove myself from the gene pool. I think guys love to donate sperm and dream that maybe they have spread their gene pool around without the financial obligation of being a "dad."

I think this is just a guy sort of thing.

I think women that do this, all the hormones and pain of harvesting the eggs are just NUTS.

Hi ambie! I have thought about this many times. I used to work
for an Infertility Specialist. I know all about the Sperm
Banks and how they work. Alot of young male professionals,
men in med school or law school donate their sperm to make
some extra money. It would bother me to because I would always
wonder if there was a child out there with my DNA. But, I
guess that these people that do the donating aren't thinking
about that. For them it is about the money. There is more that
goes into the donating then just that. They have to give some
history and physical characteristics and background.
