How High Will You Go... |
|
Last summer during the height of the high gas prices, ppl decided to stay closer to home and save the money rather than spend it on gas to take long trips. With the recent high tax on cigarettes some ppl have opted to quit rather than pay more for their smokes. There’s been talk of taxes maybe on alcohol and fast food. Basically things that others don’t think are good for you…they tax them really high and then your forced to quit or at least cut back.
It does raise an interesting question though. How high will you go? If cigarettes are $10 a pack, will you buy them? What about $20 a pack? Or what if a Big Mac is $10? Or they start charging for beer by the can and not the case? Do you have a limit for how high your willing to go for your habits? Have you ever set down added up how much you spend a month on your habit?
My only habit that I have is EverQuest II and it’s $15.00 a month but that’s the max I’ll pay for it so if they raise the price I’ll be finding another game. I don’t drink, smoke and rarely eat fast food so I’m good there. What about you?

fluffysue (764) | 11 months ago | As far as junk food, I hope if they raise prices/taxes on it, they lower the price of healthy food. It's very sad that right now I can eat a meal at Taco Bell for $2-$3, but most salads cost twice that. The price of produce and other healthy food in the supermarket is just ridiculous, as well.

2. Barb42 (2713) | 11 months ago | We don't drink or smoke and we don't go to fast food restaurants regularly. But,if the prices get too high, we will definitely stop going! We can fix food at a lower price at home. May get down to butterbeans, fried potatoes and cornbread, but we will make it. My kids are the ones I worry about! Alabama is trying to pass a law for food not to be taxed. My husband said they would just add that tax to something else to get the revenue money. And I don't see how anyone can justify paying so much for cigarettes. It's like burning up your money.

GardenGerty (20578) | 8 months ago | That food we fix for a lower price at home is also often more tasty, and it has better seasoning, less salt, and is stirred together with love. It has more imagination, to boot.

3. Amber4106 (471) | 11 months ago | Unfortunately for me, I have a few bad habits. I occasionally drink beer, and I smoke cigarettes on a regular basis. We actually started rolling our own cigarettes two years ago, and that has cut down on the amount we spend on smoking. I don't drink enough alcohol for it to really affect my budget, I just enjoy a drink or two every once in a while. I rarely eat fast food, just for the fact that I don't care to have other people handle my food. Gas is a totally different story. They can keep increasing the price because people have to go places. We have to go to work, we have to go to the doctor, and our children need to go to school. If tobacco and alcohol were to keep increasing in price, I could definetely live without them. But when my daughter needs medical attention, gas could be $20.00 a gallon and I would fill up to get her to the doctor or hospital.

5. mibngold (1525) | 11 months ago | I'd have to say that the price of cigs are driving me to try to quit...even though it seems that the more I think about it, the more I seem to smoke. I don't know why that is...I used to get them very cheap up until I found out that it is a felony to buy cigs online, so now I am spending a fortune. My meds are actually my highest bill & I cannot go without them!

6. walijo2008 (3773) | 11 months ago | I'll tell ya what been getting higher, its satellite tv, our bill was a little more this month, and now that everything's going digital, your either forced to pay the higher prices or buy a little box that lets you get the channels. I personally think that if I have to, I will cancel my subscription with them and buy the little box for my tv, its getting expensive. You would think that when they go digital they'll be getting more customers and it would help the prices go down not up, thats my gripe for the day..lol. Thankfully I don't smoke or drink either, I do eat fast food, but not as much as I watch tv..haha.

7. TheCatLady (1662) | 11 months ago | The sin tax as it's called. It makes things we want but don't need very expensive. Where I live beer is sold by the can. I buy the cheep stuff at $1.50 a can. I picked up 2 cans last week. I used on for a pizza luncheon with a friend. We spit it. The other is still in my refrigerator. A happy meal at McDonald's is $8. I rarely buy it. I don't even know what a big mac or quarter pounder is. I know it's expensive. I don't buy it because of the calories. A kids meal is a normal adult portion calorie wise.

9. OLIJULSAR (1063) | 11 months ago | Hello twoey68.....very nice discussion, especially seeing how everything keeps going up by the pay checks. I am with you, I don't drink or smoke and my husband and I rarely eat out at fast food. We may stop on our one trip into town a month, but if we didn't I sure wouldn't miss it. I would much rather have a peanut butter sandwich at hiome than some of that fast food they serve now a days. You never know what you're eating. My computer is my only habit I have. I play POGO which cost me $40 a year. It is a game site that offers all kinds of games and every week you are offered challenges to do to win badges. You can also win money if you happen to be the lucky one to hit the jackpot. You can still play even if you are not a member and win money, you just don't get to compete for badges. If you are interested and would like to our e-mail address, I would be glad to send you a free five day pass so you can check it out and see if you would be interested in it. Happy MyLotting, my friend.
