childrens swingparks, what can i do?

I recently moved to another area and normally have my grandkids over to stay every fortnight. Kids need to get out for fresh air and exercise so i decided to take them out on the Sunday and go look for a swingpark in the locality. We did find one.. tucked away in behind the houses in the middle of a field. It had rained the night before so the field was muddy, which meant a long walk around the road to avoid the kids getting it all over their shoes. After the long way round i was pleased to see there was mulch/bark chips (not sure if that's one and the same thing)although the park itself was a bit lacking in aparatus. I don't feel enough is being done for kids in local areas and would like to know what, if anything, can be done about it. My main reason is because of the last area i lived (houses are being demolished.. hence the move) the park i used to take them to, although still open to the public, i felt was dreary and abandoned. hope the kids had a gala time.even i do think the parks and gardens are diminishing becsuse of commercialisation. but the snap you provided looks a bit dangerous,wont the rubble from the surrounding area fall in the park???

Hiya Riyasam Well I thought that too at first, but I'm sure the fencing would be adequate protection, it just made the place look desolate. It's the park in the area in which I now live that's bugging me and I hope to find out who and where to complain to, my local council would probably be a good start. Alice

That's so sad that there is not a park available in the near vicinity.

Here in Italy I can say that there are parks available for children everywhere. It seems that when new estates are built they also have to create a certain amount of 'green' area and facilities for children and the aged. That's good! thumbup

Can you not contact your local council to see if improvemeents can be made?

Hiya MysD Yes I spoke to a neighbour and they said the same, approaching them and actually getting them to do anything about it is 2 different things though! I will certainly try. I have to take the kids home to get a decent park for them, it would be nice to take them out earlier in the day and bring tham back to my own house before they go home. Thanks.

Well I believe taxpayers do still have a say in where there money goes and if there is something missing I think you have every right to suggest. Good luck and keep us informed!

I will email the local council today and see what they have to say, I hope I get some positive action on it and will let you know.

Yayy I got a response from my email ... faint* Not very great news though!... as usual NO FUNDING.. it's like a warcry, the same old story, and to think things are going to get worse when the government starts cutting back on local expenditure, oh well! only 25 years to go to get out of this mess and to wait for the possibility of a new swingpark for the bairns

you should make the point to the authority who is responsible for the maintainance of the park .. Is it a danger to the young children . Is the tax payer funding the park .. get your local counsellor to do a bit of shouting .. our children and young people should have good and safe places to go, let us know how you get on*

Hiya Derry I will contact the council first and see what can be done, if i'm not happy I will then get in touch with my MP. Thanks for the suggestion.
