My daughter is 14 months old, and finally she has two teeth. So the bottle fairy has come and taken away all of those baby bottles, and brought in colorful sippy cups. So far so good. She is taking pretty well to not having her bottles. I was surprised because I didn't really wean her off of the bottle. I gave her a sippy cup once a day before, and the rest of the day she had bottles. Well yesterday I noticed her second bottom tooth coming in so I simply packed up all the bottles and put them away. We went to the store and I let her pick out some sippy cups. Bedtime went well, and so far today she is doing well without her bottles. I am concerned about an article I read that sippy cups can cause speech delay, but I'm not sure how truthful it is.
How did you wean your children from the bottle? Have you heard anything about speech delay because of sippy cups? Thanks for sharing.

For each of my kids, I simply got rid of their bottles on their first brithdays. I never really weaned them either. They all started using sippy cups when they were 4 months old, at first, I just gave them an empty cup, then, we moved on to water, and so on and so on. By the time they reached their first birthday, they almost preferred the sippy cup. I have not heard anything about speech delays, but I have heard that a sippy cup can have the same effect on their teeth as a bottle.

My eldest weaned herself at 9 months she just wouldnt take a bottle but would drink formula from a cup so we did that, my youngest she was 2 before the bottles went again she was ready and thats ok with me NOTHING will cause speach delay however allowing them to have it in their mouth 24/7 so they learn to talk around it this can cause speach problems same as with a dummy etc.
Never heard of sippy cups causing speach problems no,and my girls both teethed early eldest was 8 weeks when her first tooth came through and my youngest 16 weeks so never took the bottle off them simply because they had teeth long as you clean them it doesnt matter same as if they have sippy cups or normal cups.
