What age did you learn how to Swim? |
| |
| I am 26 yrs old and I still don't know how to swim, lol. I've taken swimming classes in high school which is almost 6-8 years ago and I still don't know how. I went snorkeling and all, but with snorkels on I feel more confident in learning how to float and tread water. I don't know if I will ever learn to swim. Some of my old friends tried to teach me by pushing me into a swimming pool where I almost drowned lol. I guess pushing someone in the water isn't the best way to teach a person. This summer I can't wait because I love going to water parks and beaches to chill and have fun. Hopefully this year I'll finally learn how to swim. How about you? Can you swim fast or not at all? Are you just me who just can't learn? | | | | | |

| | I dont know when I learned to swim but I remember that on my first holiday that I can recal I could swim and that was when I was 4-5 years old. My father loves to swim and he was probably the one to show me how to swim. | | | | | | |

| | So you're saying you do know how to swim now? That's great actually, I'm a little bumbed that I take forever to learn how to do it, haha. In my family I think my dad is the only one out of the whole family who can swim. For some reason I just can't . | | | |

| | When I was very young, my mother enrolled me in a swimming class. At the time we lived near the ocean and I think she thought I would just run into the ocean or something bizarre like that. lol | | | | | | |

| | I took swimming in high school which is too late for me. I wish I had enrolled when I was younger because I think it's easy to learn how to do anything at such an early age. However, I do not think it's a great idea to teach people to swim at oceans and stuff. Maybe at school or at swimming pools, but not at areas that are large bodies of water. That's too scary because the waves can just wash you out of land. | | | |

| | Hi usafwifey....I absolutely love to swim and I think that everyone should know how. You never know when you may need to know how and you are never too old to learn. I learned to swim at a very young age, not much more than a baby. I lived in the water and during the summers, thats where you would find me, in the lake or ocean or pool, whereever there was water. I was swimming competitively at the age of 8 and swam many races til I was 11. Then I went back and took all my proper badges, right up to and including lifeguard certification. Now I am older and facing some health issues that make some activities impossible for me, but guess what? I can still swim!! It is one of the greatest exercises for people who cant do much else and my greatest pleasure. I still swim regularly I wish you luck in learning and I have faith that you can and will learn to swim. | | | | | | |

| | Heheh, thank you! I will surely try to learn this summertime :). Right now the water at our community pool is cold, same as the weather so I'll wait. I love water and I'd love to learn how to swim. I've already snorkeled even though I'm not a perfect swimmer and I had a blast just floating around. If I was a good swimmer like yourself, I'd probably enroll in a scuba diving class. But unfortunately, obviously that can't happen unless I learn =). | | | |

| | Since you already have the desire to learn, and you seem to see how relaxing and free the water feels, you can make that your goal, that you want to learn to scuba dive. Maybe if you set your goal higher, you will learn to swim so you can learn to scuba dive. Most people that dont learn to swim is because they are either afraid of the water, or dont want to. You have the desire, so follow your dreams. Scuba diving is awesome!!... | | | |

| | I forgot when I start learn swimming. My mom and dad are good in swimming, they took me and my sister to the river! Hehehe, then we start to play with the water and we love it! When I'm in grade 4 I can swim in the swimming pool. Now, I'm 20 and swimming is one of my favorite sport. I love water and feel freedom when I swim :D | | | | | | |

| | I like lakes and rivers and oceans because they make me feel relaxed. However I wouldn't want to swim at lakes and rivers unless the water is clean looking. The only thing I go to lakes and rivers for is to go fishing. It's so much fun and relaxing. It eases my stress and negative thoughts. I love water because it's also a great workout practicing how to swim. | | | |

| | hello usafwifey_opinion i know what you mean about being able to swim like that. i think that some people are born knowing how to swim and the other people like me and you that do not know how to swim, is due to the fact that we got pushed in the pool or in my case dunked in the lake before when that i was small. so, nope, pushing somebody in the water like that, is not the correct way about teaching somebody how to swim. i can dog paddle, go under the water and float on my back is about it when it comes to swimming. i am no show off in the water at a swimming pool off of the diving board or anything like that. i guess that i will never experience what that it feels like either. lol and i love going to splash parks and to the beach as well. take care and have a beautiful evening. and good luck to you this summer in learning how to swim. | | | | | | |

| | Thank you! Just like you I also love waterparks and the beach! You don't have to be an excellent swimmer to enjoy both places haha. I can dog paddle too and swim underwater but I cannot float on my back. I tend to sink under water when I try that. My hubby tells me to just float and relax on my back but I panic and end up sinking ahha. | | | |

| | I could not remember exactly when I learn how to swim. During my childhood, I liked to play in the water but I could not swim. I was getting serious about swimming when I wanted to enter a military school in my region. I was required to be able to swim for at least 25 meters. I continued to practice and finally can make that 25 meters :D. | | | | | | |

| | I learned to swim when I was around four, because I lived on an island (not a tropical island!) and there was a public pool probably less than twenty minutes away walking, so that was somewhere we would go all the time. It's like learning to bicycle, or something. Everyone can learn, it's just a matter of effort - think of how many scraped knees and falls you had when learning to ride! The trick for swimming is to keep calm. My stepsiblings also had problems where they swam so infrequently (once a year or less) that they would forget how. But they took lessons at the local pool, and pretty soon my sister was doing decently - but my brother wasn't, because he would get so scared at even floating that he would freak out and flail everywhere. So he ended up being the kid in his group who could only hold his breath for five seconds, who couldn't swim at all, etc. They took their lessons at a local pool, it wasn't that much money for them, I don't think. I was never pushed into the water, but one time a neighborhood kid hung onto me while I was swimming and dragged me under the water. I was scared for my life, honestly, I thought I was going to drown because I wasn't expecting it and I couldn't hold my breath for long anyway! I don't understand snorkeling. I ever used them, so one time I tried, but I just didn't get it. I would go too far underwater, to the point where the snorkel pipe would fill with water. Then it was useless! I thought, "Staying that close to the top of the water is so boring". Hahahaha. | | | | | | |

| | Hello Jennifer! How can you not understand snorkeling, Hhhaa. It helps me learn how to swim though. Like I think it can help others who wants to learn swimming, since you have goggles and snorkels to breathe into. If you don't like to breathe through your mouth, I don't think it's for you. But for me it's really fun because especially if you're somewhere tropica, you can just float in the water on an ocean and take a look at tropical fish, corals, and beautiful creatures underwater. | | | |

| | I still don't know how to swim either. When I was younger I would go take classes at the ymca but still I have always had a fear of the water. When I was younger a friend told me a story about how her mother threw her in the water when she was really young, like a few years old. And she had no choice but to swim or sink. I am not sure why a mother would do that to a child. My friend said she would do the same to me and it freaked me out even more of the water. I hear many instances where that has worked but I just don't think I can learn that way. | | | | | | |

| | Hahah, yeah I think to some people it takes quite a long time to learn how to do something, especially like swimming. It gets frustrating and stuff but maybe it's also because we panic that's why we just can't learn. We probably need to calm ourselves down and just face our fears. I don't have fear of water, but I HAVE fear of drowning lol. So whenever I am near a beach or whatever, I love it as long as I'm not in the middle of a deep sea. | | | |
