How much do you respect faiths that arent your own?

Organized religion is not an entity of its own. It is not a strange being out there controling the minds of people. It is in fact simply people. If the group is good or bad, it is up to the people involved. They are in control. If you get a group of controling misfits running the show, then you have a lousy religious group. If you have a group of dedicated spiritual folks in charge, then that is the place you want to be.

Bad attitudes from bad experiences do not improve the world. They just influence others not to keep searching for the good in the world. There is much good in the world, even though all we hear about is the bad. Bad sell news, good is boring. I like the boring

Although I try very hard to be respectful of the religion I sometimes have trouble separating the actions of that religion and the practitioners of the religions, especially if that person is being confrontational. No matter Christian, Jew, Muslim, or the guy who believes his pet rock "Freda" is god. If the person is rude to me I have a habit of getting right back in their grill. And sometimes unfortunately I fell "Is this a representation of their religious beliefs"? I mean is that what their religion teaches? But when I calm down I remember I am not dealing with a God or religion, but a human who gets emotional.

to realize that everyone is different from me, and being able to respect others by not pushing off what i belive onto others. and hoping they have enough respect not judge me for what i belive.
but i often come across other who judge me and tell me i am going to hell for what i belive. but i often just remember they are ill manner, and pray for them

I try to respect the beliefs of others, but I admit, there are some beliefs out there that are just... well.. "out there". So, since I know I'm going to laugh when I hear what some people believe, I respect their right to laugh about mine too.

I have a LOT of respect for ALL beliefs. Even the non-believers.
It is my opinion that none of us really "knows" the answer.
We "believe" what we believe.

I respect opposing religious beliefs in the same regards as I'd respect opposing political beliefs or opposing scientific views. I demand a basis, some sort of evidence, for opinions. If people have no logical basis, I tell them there's no reason to accept their beliefs. Simple as that.

Of course, I'm not going to denigrate people and resort to childish insults such as, "Nanana... you're naif!" I will, however, be quite taken aback if people just tell me, "Oh yeah, I just have faith it's true." To me, it's such an empty statement, it's not really worthy of consideration. Sure, people can believe what they want, but if they expect others to view them as intellectually honest, they have to possess some sort of evidence for what they accept otherwise it's just as plausible as Sagan's "there's an undetectable dragon in my garage" analogy.

I must admit though, there are times where it gets on my nerves to hear people say, "Yeah, I just know my believes are true." In response to this, my tone of voice/style of writing may get slightly sarcastic and cynical. It's not that I don't respect the individual, it's just that claiming any sort of knowledge of "supernatural" things is just silly.

Of course there is evidence. Just look at the media. We have forms of religious bigotry around the world, and yet here we are discussing if it indeed exists. I'm not sure why people find the need to proclaim their religion as the only one or the "true one", perhaps ego. Perhaps it is because we somehow feel as humans the need to "be on top" of everything and everyone. Though it can be argued that all animals have some sort of ranking or pecking order, we see it more pronounced in the human species.

I'm not sure if people are arguing that it is one organized religion to be the cause or what have you. Perhaps it is becaue the majority of such arguments are run under the banner of "religion" that makes people more apt to state that is the cause. Personally, I feel it is the human that is the cause. It is a dysfunction within the human who has failed to understand that we are all connected, all one, and thus all valid.

I respect other faiths usually. However, I don't respect the people within that faith when they are trying to push their beliefs on me. I do not attend a specific church on a regular basis and do not feel I need to go to a certain place in order to believe in God.
