| | Oh I wish! LOL but here in Western NY its still far too cold to be planting...In fact the time to start the planting etc wont be until mid to late May...BUT that gives me plenty of time to plan things out (we're moving the gardens this yr) AND to save up some money for some landscaping items etc... | | | | | | | tattylashes (4277)

| | I'm from New Jersey, so it's pretty cold here still. When it start to get a little warmer I plan to rearrange my landscape and add some Lavender and Eucalyptus plants. Anyone know, where in New Jersey can I find Eucalyptus plants? I was searching last summer for it and had no luck. | | | | | | | tattylashes (4277)

| | Hello Doll I'm still a ways off from the planting season here in NE NY. We can not safely plant anything in the ground until May. Transplanting is done in late May early June. But I am looking forward to getting the snow gone.. seeing my perenials popping up...awww I can almost smell the lilacs! oxxoxoxo | | | | | | | tattylashes (4277)

| | i have never had lilacs before, but i do intend to get some, we have daffodils growing out front right now, my lupins are growing well too, i had a massive crop last year and now i can see their leaves popping back up, can't wait, i love that sweet fresh smell of spring, it makes me feel alive, having SAD all winter has really knocked the stuffing out of me, but now i can feel myself coming back to life again, i feel great...apart from a cold that has just started, it's the season change, this always happens, i will be fine in a few days time.... | | | | mentalward (6153)

| | Sorry to butt in here but I wanted to comment about the lilacs... Tatty, I haven't forgotten! Once my lilac blossoms start to wilt, I'll be putting bags over them so the birds don't get to the seeds before I do. I haven't forgotten! You're going to get those lilac seeds this year... promise! My lavender and white lilacs did have blossoms last year but the pink lilacs I planted last year didn't blossom because they were still too young. I MIGHT get a blossom or two from them this year, so you'll be getting some seeds from that, too. Our weather here is supposed to get up into the 70's (farhenheit) this weekend. I'm so VERY excited! Also, as you mentioned about yourself, I've caught a cold myself from the weather changing and have some kind of major chest congestion. It'll probably do us BOTH good to get outside when we can. Happy gardening to everyone!!! | | | | tattylashes (4277)

| | Well, lets see.... I will plant lettuce, onion, potatoes, carrots, dill, parsley and probably some other things - in three months *lol* our gardening season starts in the end of May - but I seldom plant anything before in the beginning of June since it's a big risk of frost in the nights... the fall when it will freeze during the nigt and kill the plans will often come in the beginning of September so we have a short season for growing! | | | | | | | tattylashes (4277)

| | I took my daughter to the shops with me the other day and she spotted some lovely bulbs, freesias I think they are. They were only 99p so I decided to buy them for her, she is only 3 so it will be her first thing of her own that hopefully she will see grow! They have to be planted between January and May, I was going to put them in this week but it went cold so I thought I would leave it until it warmed up a bit just in case the frost killed them. | | | | | | | tattylashes (4277)

| | I'm so excited about Spring being almost here! I've already started some seedlings inside like celery, tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. I also have some potatoes growing in a large pot inside the house. LOL Our ground is still too cold to work but I've been preparing for planting season anyway. I have seeds of things I've never tried growing before along with the old favorites. I think a better question to ask me would be what am I NOT going to plant this year. The list would be shorter. I already have some fruit and nut trees planted and they're doing very well. I planted two trees of my favorite kind of cherry: Ranier. They're so expensive in the store, nearly $8.00 per quart basket! So, I bought two trees so I could have all I want. The two trees will more than pay for themselves in my first harvest! Plus, I plan to take cuttings from them this year to root so I can have even more of these delicacies. Let's see if I can answer your question, though. I'm going to plant tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, potatoes (white, blue, red and purple... all the way through), sweet potatoes, celery, cabbage, lettuce, radishes, carrots (white, yellow, orange, red and purple), beets, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, corn (early, mid-season and late maturing), honeydew melon, watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkins, squash, cucumbers, onions (red, yellow and white), beans (green, wax and dried), peas, asparagus, kiwis, grapes, strawberries and I'm sure there are more that I've forgotten at the moment. I already have blueberry, blackberry and raspberry bushes planted. Yep, I'm going to have a HUGE garden this year. I'll be canning, freezing and drying what can't be eaten fresh by my family and one friend who doesn't live too far away. Oh! I'll also be planting some flower seeds I received from a good friend who lives in Great Britain! I'm SOOOOO excited about getting them in the ground! I also received some flower seeds from a wonderful Canadian friend and I'll be planting them along with a lot of wildflowers on our property on the other side of the road. (I really don't like that private road running straight through our property but I suppose it couldn't be avoided.) I'd also like to buy an English Walnut tree or two and grow them on the other side of the road as well. The way I see it, with the economy being so bad right now and the possibility of it getting even worse, I don't want to see any land just sitting there with nothing edible growing on it. (Plus, it'll be less grass to mow!) Oh, that reminded me of something else I planted last year: Bamboo. I have two kinds of bamboo growing right now, basically for the privacy they offer but also for some bamboo shoots in the Spring. I like to make Chinese stir-fried meals every now and then and can't wait to add my home-grown bamboo shoots! Well, that's about it. There may be a few veggies I forgot about, but I think you have a good enough picture of what my land is going to look like this year. My husband has emphatically stated that he will NOT eat blue potatoes or purple carrots. LOL But, he's got that 'engineer mentality' and things are supposed to be 'normal'. I think it's going to look really cool to have blue, red or purple potato salad or mashed potatoes. And what a colorful salad I'll have with all the colors of carrots, lettuce and radishes I'll have! I don't see a thing wrong with purple carrots! We'll both have to post lots of photos of our gardens, okay? | | | | | | | tattylashes (4277)

| | Unfortunately I can't get out there and do the planting myself. I am however already trying to figure out just what I want and where it should go for my son-in-law to do it for me. He will bring the boys over to help him and they will get it done for me. I can plant in pots and do things like that. | | | | | | | tattylashes (4277)

| | My tomatoes are up from seed this year. I will have a lot of them about 65 plants at this point. I may sell some of them from my front porch. I went with seed this year because I was unable to find the variety, Brandywine, last year. I think this is one of the best tasting there is and it is not one of them that have been polluted by crossbreeding. No dna mixing for me..... if I can help it.
