Tomorrow back to war email this discussion to a friend?

Tomorrow my son will be going back to Iraq to join his company after three weeks of leave here at home. He is sleeping now and I don't want to wake him as I have no idea the next time he will be able to sleep in, secure in the knowledge that he is safe until he returns from his tour of duty. Yes, he is a soldier and I am very proud of him!

I know I have friends here who also have sons/daughters in Iraq and for those of you who got to see your child during their mid tour leave, was it hard for you to think about them going back? I mean, they have already survived half a tour, in my son's case, nine months, and now they are going back.

Have you experienced this?

Was it hard to hold your chin up?

Hello Strongheart, I don't have a son who is a soldier. I do have a son who is 8 months old who I drop off with my parents every day before work. Although I no longer cry when I drop him off I am sad. And he is only 8 months old and I am no more than 10 minutes away from him. I can't imagine having him on the other side of the world for a tour of duty. You do have a strong heart and my family is thankful for people like you and your son!

Thank you for your support. May your son never have to defend our country and way of life but know that if he does, we who served before him will be behind him all the way!

The reason people like you and your son are truly special people is that our military is a voluntary military. He chose to defend our country and that's honorable in itself.

Neither of our grown children are in the service. But I have often thought of what it must be like. (Painful!) Here's hoping and praying your son will go through his tour nothing but in the utmost safety! And also hope the time flies til he is home again for good.

Thank you for the prayers! I had a call from him yesterday afternoon and we got to talk for thirty minutes. He is doing great!

God bless your son. I would be horrified if I had to fight in the war. I don't think I would ever be able to and I would probably not survive for a very long period of time.
