A Lucky, Yet Not So Lucky Week... |
| |
| Okay... Last week was probably my worst week EVER, but it also seemed like one of my best weeks ever... Hmmm...How can that be? Well, here's what happened... Sunday 3/1/09: Day 1 of Worst/Best Week Sunday was a planned day for my mother and I to go to Havre de Grace and take pictures for my photography course. I start the day waiting to charge up my camera battery (I had forgotten to do it the previous night, so I lost a lot of time that I could've spent taking pictures). Finally, the camera battery charges up and we leave for the nearly 2 hour trip. We make a stop at a gas station and my mother, who seems to be in a very bad mood, hands me her credit card to pay at the pump. I go to pay for gas and hand the card back to her a little too quickly. My mother drops the card and screams, "A*shole! Pick it up!" so loud that everyone pumping gas could hear. Everyone looked up from pumping gas and stared at me. I picked up the card and yelled, "Here! HAPPY?!" I get back into the car and we argue loudly in the gas station parking lot for about a minute with the car windows rolled half way down. We leave the gas station and stew in silence on the way to our destination. That was the worst part of Day 1. The best part was that when we finally reached our destination, all my anger went away and I began taking pictures of the water, the bridges, etc. It was fun and I got some really great photos. The bad day finished as a good day : ) Monday 3/2/09: Day 2 of Worst/Best Week It snowed pretty hard on Monday, so class was canceled. Hmmm...Monday was actually a good day...I got to sleep in! Tuesday 3/3/09: Day 3 of Worst/Best Week Class was not canceled, so I had to drive on the icy roads to my college an hour and 45 min. away (don't ask). About 5 people cut in front of me on the freeway, almost causing me to collide into them. When I get to college, I find out that my first class of the day has been cancelled. Errrr! I wait around for my afternoon class to start. In the meantime, I find a sunny spot to sit and work on college work indoors. All the sudden, I start smelling chocolate and I remember that I shoved a few chocolate bonbons in my pocket before I left home that morning. I shove my hand down my pocket and get a gooey surprise. The chocolate bonbons had melted in my pocket. I reach down to pull out the softened candy. Gross! The heat from the sun filled the room with a chocolate, caramel aroma. It smelled good, but I wasn't able to enjoy my chocolate like I had planned... I fed the bonbons to the lucky trash can nearby. Wednesday 3/4/09: Day 4 of Worst/Best Week 'Twas such a lovely day on Wednesday. It was sunny and warm. All the snow had melted... Someone almost ran me over as I crossed one of the pedestrian walks on campus, but other than that... Wednesday was... *Looks up and makes holy choir voice* AHHHHHHH Thursday 3/5/09: Day 5 of Worst/Best Week I drive to college and stop at one of the many stop signs on campus. I'm one of the few people who actually stop at the stop signs/pedestrian walks on campus. Anyway, I go to stop at the stop sign and the guy behind me rams his big SUV into the back of my parent's classic 1985 Pontiac Fiero! I go to pull over to an area where I'm not blocking traffic to look at the damage done and exchange information with this guy...and guess what?! The a*shole speeds away into a nearby parking lot! I wasn't able to get his license plate because I wasn't wearing my glasses at the time. I go to follow the idiot into the parking lot when about three cars cut me off to go into the same lot. I end up losing the shitwad who hit me. I park my car and get out to look at the damage and surprisingly there was none...so I was very happy and quite relieved. The same day, I decide to leave my afternoon class early to work on an essay that was due the next day. Everything is going smoothly (no one cuts me off on the freeway and I don't almost miss my exit). I get off the freeway and start heading down a road when the car in front of me decides to stop to turn into a driveway. I brake. All the sudden, the car behind me slams into the back of my car. O_M_G!!! I pull over and the guy behind me does the same. We exchange information and so on... That was the worst part of Day 5. The best part: The guy who hit me was nice and didn't try to blame the accident on me (GOOD! It was his fault!) He bought me water to calm down my nerves. I think I went into a slight shock that afternoon. I had never experienced anything of the sort. What a day that was...my car was hit twice! Friday 3/6/09: Day 6 of Worst/Best week Well, after being in an accident the day before, I was quite nervous to be back on the road again. My car was hurt badly from the accident so I had to drive another car, which I was not comfortable at all driving. The brakes on my temporary car sucked. I was nervous the entire ride to and from college. I decided not to attend a campus newspaper meeting that day (a meeting that I really looked forward to) because then I would have to drive home during rush hour-on the freeway-in a car with crappy brakes. I leave campus around 12:00 pm and head home. I get home from a nervous drive and plop down on my bed to sleep. A looong week makes a good sleep : ) Saturday 3/7/09: Final day of Worst/Best Week The guy's insurance agent leaves a message late on Friday stating that she "will not be in till Monday." Yeah, we weren't surprised. After all, it's only a job--nothing more, right? We leave the agent a message saying that we HOPE she is not planning on leaving us stranded the entire weekend... It is a beautiful day on Saturday, so we try not to stew over the insurance company's actions. A friend and I make a trip to Havre de Grace to take pictures and walk the board walk. On the way back home, our GPS takes us in the wrong direction and makes us head down a bridge to pay a 5 dollar toll. The lucky part of Day 7 was that I just happened to have exactly 5 dollars in my pocket to avoid being hit with a $20 fine. So, basically we payed 5 freakin' dollars to make a U-turn. We decided to make it the best damn U-turn we have ever made. Other than that, Day 7 was a pretty good day. Well, that's the end of my lucky, yet not so lucky week. So, have you ever had such a crappy week that when the slightest good thing happens to you, it tends to become a best week too? | | | | | |

| | Yes. I am such an A-Hole. Truly... You know James, I really hope you get to do a 5 dollar U-turn someday. I really do. I'm glad you embrace the simple joys in life...but when I think about it, those simple joys are kinda hard to avoid ; ) Taking your wife to a 5 star hotel for lunch is really sweet, but uh...you know yer s'posed to, right? Heehee. | | | |

| | First of all, I cannot believe your mom called you THAT... but then again, she accompanied you to Havre de Grace. Being hit twice in a day is quite rare but I guess it could happen to anyone of us more than any of us winning the lottery. I have had the experience of being rear-ended at school when I was driving Boyfriend's car. The other driver and I exchanged information but the "whatyourmomcalledyou" gave me incorrect ones. Good thing there really was no damage. This January, I drove to San Francisco with my sister and Boyfriend. Drove through the toll booth as there were three of us and it was still carpool hours. Weeks later, I got a "toll evasion" notification. So I had to spend hours taking care of that. Hope you'll have better and more importantly, safer, weeks ahead, steflane. | | | | | | |

| | hate is such an ugly word...I would say, "I feel passionately indifferent towards him"---if that makes any sense. LOL. Hmmm...well on a serious level, what I would do in that situation would be to retake the class with a different professor of course. Some professors tend to be a little too tough because they expect more from their students and want them to learn by making mistakes. I would suggest asking people around campus about the reputation of certain professors you plan on having. Students know all and can tell you what to expect from a professor---so you'll be prepared for the strict ones ; ) I wish you all the best in college. | | | |

I'm sorry that you had to go through all that though and I do hope that at least you were able to get some great photos! I didn't have the best week either so I you aren't the only one! My bf was off of work all week and it was definitely a very long week for me and my two poor little kittys! Needless to say we are all very glad that he will be returning to work tomorrow! | | What a long week you had got to the end of your discussion and it reminded me of when I was out and about, retired now so not much goes wrong and if it does I keep it to myself,or don't even notice.Having someone smash your car up you cannot ignore really and as for your mum she was probably tired,we get like that us old girls.Insurance companies are very good at taking your money off you,a bit canny about the thought of handing it out.Apart from that a day in the life of,seems pretty normal to me,by the way take care of your mum as you don't know how long you have got her for.Lost mine in April last year.We don't need a gps as my husband has driven all over england and has a good memory we joke in the family ask my husband he will know how to get there. | | | | | | |

| | I had a real bad incident happen to me in a Dollar Tree store. This happened 3 years ago. I was ready to check out and going up front with my cart. I saw a line so I was just going to hang loose, when a clerk said to me she was ready to open up another checkout, for me to come and she'd check me out. Relieved that i did'nt have to wait I started to go, when this guy and woman with him said very rudely, "she meant me. I was next in line." I said back, " oh no. She said me and I'm not going to let another person take advantage of me." So I went to checkout all the while he was cussing and speaking right at my ear and saying," oh someone forgot to take their medication this morning! " I told him to shut up. He told me to shut up. I continued to ignore him as I paid for my stuff. I think he must of been on drugs to treat me that way and be so rude and loud. What a jerk. He also told me to go get hit by a bus. Can you believe it? | | | | | | |

| | What is the moral of the story: Stay away from Steflane when she is behind the wheel. What do you think the author could have done different? Maybe she should have gone to the photography class that was canceled on Monday that would have taught her to drive with her camera in the car so that she can get a nice photo of all the A*holes that she was going to be ran over by all week. What would you have done in the author's situation? Stay away from Steflane when she is behind the wheel. ...Mrghill hands in his book report about "The week in the life of Steflane" and happily excepting his well-deserved "F" as he is forcefully escorted out of the building by campus security. | | | | | | |

| | Hey Sugar, you have a little bit of a depressed tone to your return comments. I hope you realize I was just poking at you and mean no harm. I hope you didn't take my ridiculous comments too seriously. Listen Sugar, life is really hard right now for almost everyone and you are probably getting your share of the misery pie. When I get down, I like to think that things can be much worst like there could be a man somewhere with no arms trying to unzip his pants in a McDonald's bathroom or a one-eyed woman watching a great movie and accidently poking herself in the eye with a pair of "cat woman" glasses. Cheer up, try to smile, and remember if things weren't bad every once in a while, you wouldn't know when good things happen. I have to now figure out how to transmogrify my well-deserved "F" into a laudable "B" using a broken #2 pencil and a stale bottle of india ink. (mrghill begins to bellow smoke from his ears) | | | |

| | Oh, no...my bad! Actually...that was a sarcastic comment from me. No Oscar the Grouch here. I've stopped using LOL after each sentence--- hoping people understand my dry humor. BTW, Where have you been all this time, Mrghill?! I hope you stick around for a little longer : ) See you around, G. | | | |
