 Yesterday, it was $4.21 for a pack of smokes. Today, it is $5.11, and guess what?
THE NEW FEDERAL TAX ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BECOME EFFECTIVE UNTIL APRIL!!!
So either the state of Illinois increased the tax again, or the cigarette companies raised their prices and are trying to blame it on the Feds.
The manager at the store I bought them at tried to say it was because of the Federal tax; when I informed her it was only a 62 cent increase and didn't go into effect until next month, she just stood there with her mouth hanging open.
Yeah, I bought the damn things anyway.
And yes, I AM PISSED!!!

1.  daneg33 (1007) | 10 months ago |  Only $5.11? Smokes in BC, Canada are almost $9 per pack!!! Apparently the cost of a pack is about 75 cents, the rest is taxes. Unbelievable. This is basically a voluntary tax payment, so is the tax on booze.

I could not handle smokes in Canada.
Still they do come in 25 in a pack there right?

Did you know they are called more becausee if you leave them in the ashtray for a minute or so they go out so they never just smolder away like other cigarettes. So your get "more" out of them. A pack lasts me much longer because I would forget my other brand (Virginia Slims)and the next thing I had long length of ash sitting in the ashtray. | |
