We Are Quitting!

My boyfriend and I quit because it just costs too much in Oct. 2008.
We quit cold turkey. It wasn't as hard as I thought.
I just make sure that I have candy on hand and it seems to help,

Hi Ramoth, My husband and I were just talking about this with some friends this evening . We live in Mexico and we only pay about $2.60 for a pack of smokes .
We really want to quit for health reasons . We so enjoy life here, we want it to last as long as it can, and quiting smoking will help us to live longer .
We are thinking of using the chantix . Here you don't need a perscription to buy it, and i'm sure its alot less then in the STates. Besides the Chantix I will make sure we have lots of things like gum, and candy that we can pop in our mouth when we get the craving to smoke. Tonight we will probably sit down and agree to
a date to quit . Quiting is soo hard,it's such a bad habit to have .
There are websites that will count down the days you don't smoke and
they will add up how much money you save by not smoking . I think I will register in one of the websites for extra help .
Hey with the money you save on smokes, why not save for a vacation
and come to our little part of the Yucatan, Mexico! Good Luck to ya!

Well we either gotta get rich, quit or move to a place where smokes are cheaper! I heard they are only a buck a pack in Brazil!

Time has changed. In the past, people thought it natural to exchange cigarettes as signs of kindness. And people smoke when having dinners, and even at meetings.
But now, in a lot of places, smoking is not allowed indoors, as it has become an offence to most people, especially to little babies.

Your intent to quit smoking is highly appreciated. Be prepared to some ups and downs, and try to find other hobbies outdoors to minimize the possible uneasiness.
My husband has succeeded in quitting smoking for several years, and his cough is much better.

I don't smoke.But my father smoke a lot.And he tried to quit for many times.What a pity!He failed.So I can understand the pain.Cold turkey is bad for your health.You had better choose the prescription route.Good luck to you!

I've never smoked cigarettes, by my mother did for a long time. One day last year, she just quit, cold turkey. She hasn't smoked a cigarette for more than a year.

Mom actually didn't gain very much weight, but she was really irritable for a few weeks. My brother and I steered clear of her... lol

Welcome for your decision to quit smoking.It will be nice for your family health.At least the prices stopped you from reaching it.It is great that you have this economical situation.Every bad things have some good things behind and it is true in your case.Don't ever go into the habit again.Cheers!

My husband is trying quitting smoking again (its probably his 6th time). He was going to use the Chantix but decided not to and is going cold turkey. Everytime he gets the urge he pops a lolly in his mouth. So far its working but we'll see.
Good on you and your partner for attempting the quit you'll be better off health wise and financially too.

I am thinking of quitting AGAIN and this time I will go cold turkey. I have tried all the other methods other than chantix. They work as long as I'm on them. I got hypnotized twice and I was told that my addiction is deep. It is. I started smoking at 10 and it wasn't due to peer pressure...I really just wanted to smoke. If you go cold turkey...the cravings only last about 2 minutes. If you can stick those two mins out and keep busy then you are good until the next one hits. They get further and further between as you go but maybe stronger also. You just have to ride it out. If you can do it for 3 days and if you really want to, I'm told that's the worst of it. my mom did it and so did my brother. I have gone hours and hours and I see how that could work but I just need to syke myself into it. Last month I spent well over 200.00 on cigs. That is a car payment!! The prices are going up again at the start of April so brace yourself...they are going up 70 cents per pack more! I am angry that they are earning money off our addiction. They are confident that we all won't up and quit so it is a pretty easy target for them. It's too bad we couldn't all up in quit in protest. It'd serve them right. They'd have to come up with someone else to earn their money off from. They target smokers because they can....we will find a way to pay their ridiculous prices cuz we are addicts! it's pretty much the same concept as stealing the wallet from the passed out drunk. They are not only taking advantage of our addiction...they promote it. You don't see them regulating the amount of chemicals they add do you t o make it even more addictive? Course not...They really don't want us to quit and they are very assured that we won't.

I personally used patches for about 3 days but they caused me terrible nightmares and itching even when I took them off before bed. I ended up quitting "cold turkey" and its stuck. I had quit in the past but cold turkey is the only way that I have stayed away from smoking. I have saved at least 500 since I quit last October (I was a heavy smoker) and one month after I quit smoking I got pregnant, another reason for some of you ladies to quit if you are having trouble conceiving.
