GM Diet |
|
Have you heard of this diet program. For those who dont know what GM Diet is - It is a 7 day diet plan that was developed by the General Motors for its employees. I have started it two times but have usually given it up on Day 3. Has anyone had any success with it? If yes, whats the secret of holding on. Another issue for following this diet is that I am a vegetarian and I changed the non-vegetarian component of the diet with some of the vegetarian options but I am not sure about the calorie content and how it fits into the plan. I am overweight and would really like to get back to a healthy weight.

1. snowy22315 (8127) | 10 months ago | I havent heard of this diet. I actually have had some limited sucess with low carb type diets and that is mostly what I am doing now to try to lose weight. I guess there are some diets that would problably be better than these but the low carb regimes seem to work the best for me and they are diets that are easy to use.

Good luck with the weight loss. You will add good years to your life and decrease chances of heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.

malsun (1234) | 10 months ago | Well the panic to lose weight with my latest cholestrol report. Hence the diet frenzy! But what you say is right. Anything extreme is awful. I was feeling so weak after the first two days that people around me panicked and asked me to stop the diet regime.

jands1 (428) | 10 months ago | Hmm...not good. Just make sure you are getting plenty of fruit and veggies. Whole grains, oatmeal and a touch of protein. You will do fine. I have faith in your ability to bring yourself to the healthy state you want to be in.

malsun (1234) | 10 months ago | The GM Diet is a rapid weight loss method aimed to detoxify and cleanse your system. It is spread over 7 days. While following this diet program, you are advised to stay away from alcohol and consume a lot of water. Day One, you can consume fruits as much as you want or can except for bananas. Some say that consuming melons alone can reduce upto 3-4 lbs on your first day. (If you leave this mid way- you gain that back;) tried and tested!) Day two cooked or raw vegetables. As bland as possible. Day 3 is for fruits and vegetables. no bananas and potatoes.Day 4 is Banana Day eat upto 8 bananas and drink 3 glasses of milk. Day 5 and 6 small portions of meat with 6 tomatoes. if you are a vegetarian you may have to look at something to replace the meat with the same nutrient value. day 6 can use any vegetables. day 7 is feast day. eat brown rice, juices or veggies. you can repeat it next month for better results! If you last the 7 day diet, it would be better to start and maintain healthy eating habits or you would go back to where you started!

sunshine4 (6288) | 10 months ago | I could never do it! After eating all fruits, I can see loosing weight the first day, but I would think that after you eat again, you will gain it back. The veggie day would kill me!!

OreoCookie3 (18658) | 10 months ago | This is really ludicrous. I would not do this at all. You don't have to put your body through this kind of abuse. The solution is NOT to go on a diet you can't live with the rest of your life.

malsun (1234) | 10 months ago | :) People who have tried it say that the first three days are the most difficult ones to stick to. Once you pass that stage, you will hang on till the end. Well, speaking for myself, the day of raw and boiled vegetables makes me want to gobble up a few wafers!!

5. OreoCookie3 (18658) | 10 months ago | Hi Malsun,
I don't really understand why you would want to 'go on a diet' to lose weight. Most of those very strict diets are hard to live with. It takes a change of lifestyle to lose and keep it off. Anyone can lose some weight, but as soon as they 'go back' to their regular routine they gain it back.
I lost 36 pounds since last year...by changing my lifestyle. I could lose more if I cut back a little more than I do or exercising more... The only change is I stopped all snacking and stopped eating at night...I just don't eat at night. I have smaller portions during the day and don't eat between meals... or I eat even smaller amounts 4 to 6 times a day. I don't get much exercise due to my disability, but the weight has come off slowly and not come back. I am still losing this way. I don't weigh myself but twice a month anymore. I eat less meat... about half-way to being a vegetarian.
I want to see everyone succeed that wants to lose, but going on a strict diet that you can't stick to isn't really conducive to losing weight long term.

malsun (1234) | 10 months ago | I completely agree with you. And though I gave this up twice, I have now started on a healthier diet. I panicked seeing my cholestrol report and then the ideas started pouring from internet, friends and family. But I see your point. Thanks.

OreoCookie3 (18658) | 10 months ago | Thank you for telling me you are eating healthier now.. I was worried about you. I'll be getting my cholesterol checked in July... it's not too high, but doc hopes it will be lower with more weight loss.
Thanks,
Cookie

6. oyenkai (3331) | 9 months ago | The GM Diet focuses on limiting your calorie intake - which is a very good way of losing weight (just eat less!). I've tried the Negative Calorie Soup diet that is often undertaken by patients that are about to undergo surgery (some need to lose fat, especially if they are overweight).
Since you're a vegetarian, I think that it's a good alternative instead of the GM Diet program:) http://beingoyen.blogspot... here are the basics.
Thanks for the response on my discussion!
