2. jonesy123 (3254) | 9 months ago | Sorry this happened to you, especially on your new carpet. What you can do really depends on the type of fiber of your carpet. You should call the place which sold it to you to find out about that, if you don't know. They also might know a remedy that works better. There may even be some type of warranty on that carpet.
Generally you can get wax off a carpet. You take a butter knife (nothing sharp) and gently scrape across the area to get up most of the wax. You don't want to be rough or you'll pull out carpet fibers stuck to the wax. This is tedious to do but it will take care of the brunt of it.
Now the next step depends on how much heat your carpet can take. Obviously more natural fibers can take more than more plastic ones. You need absorbent paper, but the thin kind. I usually use the paper one can get to blot off ink. But that's expensive and hard to get. Brownbag paper will do, too. Place that over the area and use a warm iron to iron over the paper. The melting wax will stick to the bottom of the paper and be absorbed by it. Depending on the amount of wax, you might have to do this several times. Depending on the fiber type, the heat it can take from the iron before causing damage to the fiber varies, that's why you need to know the fiber type.
Once the wax is gone, you can treat the area with regular carpet cleaner. Be aware though, if it was a strongly colored candle, you might not get that color out completely.
Good luck!

jonesy123 (3254) | 9 months ago | No, the paper towel stuff is not sturdy enough. It flakes off. Oh, I forgot, put a kitchen towel over the paper, or you'll burn the paper instead of getting the wax up.

3. p1kef1sh (5627) | 9 months ago | I was going to say the same as Jonesy. It does work, but go at it gently with the iron or you'll end up spreading it. Get as much as you can off with a knife first though. You'll be surprised how much will come of just by doing that. Under no circumstances apply a hot iron to the wax directly. A brown paper bag is best. Don't ask me why. It just is. Good luck Tatty.

kissieme (427) | 9 months ago | I was too lol... Because that's what I did on a dress and a carpet that got stained on by candle wax when I was in HS... though I used a recycled brown manila paper on it. It works and I didn't have to worry about the stain cuz the candle wasn't a colored one...
I hope you'll be able to get the stain off your carpet, tatty... hugs...

4. mentalward (4193) | 9 months ago | The only way I've heard of removing wax is to place a towel over the stain and run an iron over it. The heat from the iron will melt the wax and the towel will soak it up.
I've never tried this, though, so I don't know how well it works. You also have to be careful that you don't melt the carpet if it's made of synthetic materials.
My biggest problem was getting chewing gum out of carpets. Egg white is wonderful for that! You rub the eggwhite into and around the gum, scrub it with something like an old toothbrush and the egg gets between the carpet fibers and the gum so it comes right off. I have no idea if this will work for candle wax or not, though.
I'd try scraping as much off as possible, then try the iron and towel method (use an old towel), making sure the iron wasn't set at a very high temperature, just hot enough to melt the wax.

mentalward (4193) | 9 months ago | Ah! I see two others beat me to it. I'll be keeping an eye out here to see if there are any other proven methods or if you try it and it works. You never know! I might need to use my own advice someday! LOL
Good luck, Tatty!

mentalward (4193) | 9 months ago | I can imagine the look on your face as you saw this happen! I can also see this happening in slow-motion through your eyes!
Our furry friends are so loving and sweet, but they can sure get into mischief! I read an article about dogs (especially puppies) and this can apply to cats as well. When our attention is not entirely on them, they can misbehave just as young children would do if our backs were turned.
I have many candles around the house but only light those on tables if I'm right there near them. I have one of those things that heats up the wax so you can smell the scent of the candle but not have a flame. That works great but, if you like a lot of candles for the ambiance, you'll just have to keep the kitty under control (yeah, easy to say, right? lol).
MOST of my candles are up on wall sconces, out of the reach of both kitties and dogs. I've had my share of disasters over the years from all kinds of furry friends AND the two-legged kinds... those walking disasters we call kids.
I had Kool-Aid spilled on my new carpet once, a long time ago when my youngest son (the hyperactive one) was about 5 years old. My carpet was a very pale gold color and the Kool-Aid was cherry... red, naturally! I tried EVERYTHING to get that stain out but nothing worked. I had to learn to live with it since it was not in a spot that I could cover with furniture.
Eventually, I bought new carpet, one with several different colors all blended together so, no matter what spilled on it, it wouldn't show too badly. Here in our new house, we have hardwood floors with only area rugs so, if there's a disaster in the future, I can replace the rug at minimal expense.
Oh! I just remembered something. IF you can't get the wax out entirely, and if you have or can get a small patch of carpet, you can have a carpet installer cut out the stain and patch it up with a new piece of carpet. From my own experience, I've learned to let experts handle "patching" because they can do it without any seams showing. I tried, but you could always see where the patch was because I could NEVER get it to match perfectly with the rest of the carpet. This is a last resort kind of thing.

jonesy123 (3254) | 9 months ago | Interesting idea for the gum. I heard one should put ice cubes on top of it to freeze it and then break it off. I'm not sure I want the extra mess of the egg white, but have not tried the ice method yet either. There is a solution I think it's called 'goo out' or something like that. It works wonders where other things didn't work and it doesn't leave a residue on the carpet either. It does get the gum out no problem. But it's been a while that I needed to use it. I have to look up the name again.

GardenGerty (20109) | 9 months ago | I always had good luck with chewing gum by rubbing peanut butter into it then using a degreaser product. Also good is a product called Aquilaun, made by Stanley Home Products, maybe Fuller Brush now,(one company bought the other).

5. OreoCookie3 (18123) | 9 months ago | Try to get as much as you can out by hand, and then make a paste with vinegar and baking soda. It will fizz for a bit, but that is okay. Rub the baking soda mixture into the stain and let it dry for a few hours.. then vacuum it up. Try that. I saw that somewhere on the net.

7. wiccania (2780) | 9 months ago | Get a paper bag and an iron. Lay the paper bag over the stain and put the iron on a setting that is low enough not to burn your carpet but high enough to melt the wax. Iron the paper bag. The heat will melt the wax and the paper bag will absorb it. If it's a colored candle, I don't know if it'll help get up the color from it, but it'll at least get the wax up. Then you can try the different cleaning products to get any visible (non-wax) stain up. Hope that helps.

8. GardenGerty (20109) | 9 months ago | I have not tried this personally, but what I have been told is that you put paper towels over the stain and use a warm iron. The warmed wax is drawn into the paper towels and removed from the fabric or rug. It is a long process, but is the only thing I have ever heard for this situation.
