I too remember the phrase. Though, for today's younger people it is unfortunately necessary to explain WHY dead is better than red. Freedom is a concept that is wholly taken for granted. Which means that it is inconceivable for many to fathom a reality where it is not possible to find any advocate or ally for our individual freedoms -- as has been the reality under every pure socialist system, and where the hybrids are in such a state of collective schizophrenia that the left hand is continuously undoing what the right hand has done. That of course leaves us in a state of stagnancy.

As you appropriatlely pointed out, our school system is a systemic failure in this regard. In today's world, if you're under a certain age, the question is often asked "So ... what's wrong with socialism?" There are far too many who have no idea about the history of socialism or how it cannot help but morph into communism as 'it' (Collectivism) is applied to a governance reality. In other words, they've never been challenged to ponder why 'equality' is unable to survive in a system that is by nature 'heirarchical' -- which inevitably leads to abuses and and tyranny as those 'in power' seek to hold onto that power.

I wish that I could argue your terrific point that "They've done their job well." Alas, such a case is impossible to make.

Infiltration is exactly why young folks don't understand why dead is better than read. Most of our college professors are "Progressives" with Socialism in mind and that's the platform they teach from. Kids look at you like you have two heads if you try to explain the evils of Communism because they just don't have the life experience to know how bad it can be.

Two heads? Funny visual, yet truer words have rarely been spoken.

I was fortunate to have a father who made sure we knew what was the truth and where the textbooks were wrong. The school cannot brainwash kids with liberal ideology if the parents at home are willing to take the time to teach them their own values.

I got into a fight with a college professor because my mom is from Grenada and the line of crap he tried to sell us about America "invading" Grenada (which he insisted was "Granada - even the textbook got it wrong Granada is a city in Spain, Grenada is an Island nation in the Caribbean). We didn't "invade" Grenada, we took military action to HELP Grenada at the request of the Grenadians because Castro had invaded and was making things really bad for the people who live there. We LIBERATED Grenada! I said to the teacher, "Who do you want to beleive, a textbook that couldn't even spell the name of the country right, or the child of an actual Grenadian who still has family there and KNOWS what really happened?" Despite the fact that my teacher was a liberal, he respected other points of view and people who were willing to stand up for truth no matter what. I got an A+ in that class.

I went to grade school int he seventies and eighties, we were taught about the civil rights movement and given an early version of sensitivity training, which was actually a pretty good idea since we were in a very ethnically mixed neighborhood, but my Dad and my Mom made sure that we learned at home as well, and made sure we didn't just believe what we were told because we were told it. We were taught to think for ourselves and look deeper. I often checked out books from the library to seek a deeper knowledge of things they only touched on in school. Lots of kids I knew did the same.

If I let my kids go to public school, you can bet that I will be reading their textbooks very closely so I can point out inaccuracies and make sure that my kids know both sides of a story and are able to THINK for themselves and not just believe something because they are told it is so. My kids will not be indoctrinated. PARENTS are the greatest influence on a child, no matter what the liberals wold have you beleive. If they try to teach my kid something that is not correct, my kid will know to speak up and that mommy has her back. I'll go to the school myself and point out the errors and bias I find.

I find grammatical errors in English textbooks! My English teachers loved me for that.

Certainly none could argue with your point that parents' involvement in their children's learning is of great benefit to our children, and all of our futures.

As well, your point that textbooks often contain errors. (Actually that whole textbook cartel is an interesting study of potential anti-trust litigation, eh?)

Though, your Greneda story is quite remarkable. I have to admit that I'm glad that your teacher wasn't such an egomaniac that you were punished for dissent. And, that you were able to educate your fellow students. Unfortunately, your teacher was not alone in his misconceptions about the US's efforts to thwart communism elsewhere in the Caribbean and South America. That whole period against communist expansion is perhaps the least understood aspect of US Foreign Policy in the whole of our nation's history. It boggles the mind how many fallacies exist about the Nicaraguan Sandanistas, the link to Fidel and the USSR. It all comes back to Reagan's Policy of Containment, and the fact that socialism and capitalism are contradictory, and wholly incompatible ideologies if growth and progress are the ultimate objectives. Freedom and oppression are mutually exclusive.

I too recall the social experimentation initiatives of the 1970s & 1980s. If one looks over the list from the Naked Communist, it's impossible not the recognize the links between the outlined Communist goals of the early 60s and the social initiatives implemented in the 70s & 80s. Criminies, Madonna did for promiscuity what Martin Luther King, Jr. did for race relations in this country. Certainly two opposite ends of the spectrum of desireablity, though the extend of their individual influences is beyond question.

Interesting that you should bring up Chavez. Did you see the world news that Chavez has called Obama an ignoramus? Apparently, Chavez is none too happy about Obama chastising his efforts to export his populism and populist ideas. Imagine that!

How to stop that madness; that is the $64k question, isn't it?

Yesterday's headline on the Fox News website was that Chavez has seized control of the seaports and airstrips in the of municipalities where the local authorities were speaking out against his communism. Where local politicians were considering running against him in elections, the main sources for income to those areas has been seized by the government. Regular Venezuelans are pissed. I can likely locate and POM a link to anyoen who wants to see. I just can't paste in discussions until I do 200 or so posts more.

It troubles me that I fully expect that in the near future (if it isn't already happening behind closed doors) that we'll be asked by certain of the Venezuelian Peoples to help rescue them from the Chavez's tyrannical oppression. If not from inside of VZ, then certainly by its neighbors. This is particularly disturbing because Russia is massaging public perceptions in the region.

After all the glowing support of Chavez by the US media it will be difficult to muster popular support to put a stop the Chavez' expansionist, military-backed objectives. It's very troubling actually. I hope beyond hope that I'm wrong. Though, history suggests otherwise.

Yes Venezuela is going to ask us to save them from tyranny. Who then is going to save us when it happens here in a short time. We are following the same downhill path.

I understand the rally for action. However, as we've all learned from this nightmarish election, action without an organized, well-laid plan is absolutley NOT better -- it is just change for change's sake.

Orly Taitz is on an essential path, with the potential to unravel much of what has taken place. However, that is one strategy, for one battle. Leaving much to be accomplished on other fronts. The growing number of states reasserting their 9th & 10th amendment rights is another front. Pursuing the pending legal battle over who knew what, and when is yet another front. You're right, if Orly wins then we can release a huge sigh of relief. However, if she wins, then the really hard work will be just beginning. So, while it is critical to keep supporting Orly and spreading the news of the merit of the case, we also need to recogize that that is just one step. A critical first step? Absolutely! Though, just the first of many to follow. So, keep up the good fight, Rose!

Another big step would be for the States to refuse the Stimulus money. It would be one less chance for "Big Gov." to get control over them. Once a state becomes dependant on the money, they will not have money to fund various programs the next year. Then they will be the "bad guys" for not having the services for their residents.

If I'm understanding you, you're suggesting that both systems are identical in their ultimate, translucent (not transparent) goals, as maintained by those in power as well as those who seek, and/or are potentially poised to be in a position to attain power, right? Is that what you are suggesting?

If so, I agree to the point of the ultimate outcome. If what you say is true, then at least capitalism is honest, and bolsters the free rise and fall among the defined economic classes based on merit, whereas Communism is the ultimate deception.

both are as deceptive as the other. for capitalism to its better, it needs an opponent. so the need for communism. if you look into the history behind communism, you will see that capitalists were behind the whole idea. Karl Marx never worked in his whole life, spent most of his life reading at Library. He was funded by industrialist Frederick Engels. If you seek more information, read eveything without looking at it thru any colored glasses you may reach the truth. may be that is different from mine, but you will know why things are the way they are.

If you are suggesting that the two ideologies are symbiotic, then I wholeheartedly disagree. If anything I would deem communism as parasitic. It cannot exist independently, i.e. on it's own, without capitalism as a diametric counterpart, because it defies Human nature. However, capitalism can and has existed without a diametric counterpart throughout most of Human history because it is harmonious with mankinds better and worst characteristics.

Because some people feel weird about him being connected from his Muslim roots that they will think of anything.

..I found it interesting to learn that the first (middle east) terrorists were trained by Fidel Castro.. there's other connections too, between the old communists and the training terrorists received.. (Some in the history of Iraq also if I'm remembering correctly(?)
