 Hi friends Tomorrow is Ugadi New year for Indians. We celebrate it very nicely in south India. Different parts of India will have different customs on this day. In south India people decorate their house with mango tree leaves, neem leaves and colourful flowers. They pray for the prousperity, health and wealth. And we will have a little bit of neem leave with jaggery this shows we axcept both good and bad equally in our life. How do you people celebrate it.. Happy Ugadi to all those who celebrate.

I am from north India (Rajasthan) and settled in andhra pradesh we don't celebrated but we go to our near by friends to wish them.

| 4. mymytri (1512) | 10 months ago |  Happy Ugadi to all of you .Well we too decorate our house with mango and neem leaves.We prepare Ugadi pacchadi with jaggery,neem flowers,mangoes,New tamarind pasted,chillies and salt early in the morning after pooja.It is a mix of all tastes and eating it on that day is good for health.We wear new clothes and visit temple especially lord venkateswara on Ugadi day.Smiles...

we have Chaitra Navaratri from tomorrow....this is considered new year by all hindus....but yes all celebrate in different ways, the way u are saying, i have seen in maharashtra also where i am born and studied but in M.P. here now, we just offer prayers to MAA DUGRA and the wishes are same health, wealth and prosperity. wish you all the best for celebration!!!

I am a Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin and our community celebrates it too. We all congregate at an appointed place where the Panchanga for the New Year is read out and prayers are offered for the welfare of the community and the entire humanity which is followed by a spiritual discourse. After that there is a small feast for everyone and everyone wishes each other. Since i am physically challenged and on a wheelchair i am not able to attend any of these gatherings. However in 1998 the spiritual head of our community Param Pujya Sadyojat Shankarashram Swamiji had visited my house and i along with my mother were fortunate to receive their blessings.Our Swamiji regularly visits Bangalore and stays at the Shri chitrapur Math at Malleswaram. If you get an opportunity you must have their darshan because they are the very incarnation of Adi Shankarashram with an imposing and pleasant personality.

We Bengalis celebrate the new year on 15th April, which is the first day of Baisakh. We call it Poila Baisakh so our new year is just coming. We will of course buy new clothes, decorate our houses with flowers and have festival food. A fun filled day for all Bengalis.
