teenage pregnancy |
| |
| not long ago, the story of a 13-year-old british boy becoming a dad was aired on the local news. when i went home to my province for my neice's high school graduation, i was met with the story of a graduating student who is four months pregnant. as if things aren't bad enough, none of the two *sigh* guys she was with (apparently, on separate occasions) claims the kid. it was maddening, but i was not mad at the girl. not even the parents, as they are only ruled by the society. i was mad at the society and its rules, and i was mad at the teachers who so piously abide by these rules. i was a teacher once, and i do welcome talks of mature content from 'my kids' and now, 4 years later, none of them have had unwanted pregnancy. coming back to the place and seeing what i saw, it was saddening that the society labels teenage sezuality as 'sinful' and does not explain why. teachers do not talk about this in class because 'it is not the right place for such topics'--horse manure. there is no better place to talk about these things than in the classroom, where everything that the teacher says is believed in. for a country like mine, it is just plain stupid not to embrace proper sexual education when the thing is in the internet, and curiosity is in every youngling. i apologize for the apparent nag. i had just been trying to tell my co-teachers before that they should not discriminate teenage secuality because there is nothng that could stop it. we only need to 'talk the kids through it'. or am i wrong? | | | | | |

| | I don't think you are wrong at all. In fact, I see the teenage pregnancy rises here in the US as well. I have a 2 year old son who eventually will be in high school and dealing with girls. Although I can't use religion as a learning tool as I do not believe in religion. But I can use him as an example. I was 20 when he was born so it wasn't my teenage years but his father and I are now seperated because of it and his dad will never see him. | | | | | | |

| | correct. i do remind myself of the people around me who have been in these situations. although i do not discriminate them for what happened, i make it a point not to make the mistakes that they did. i just hope my neice--who was a friend of the girl--would choose the same things i did. on a different note: i have a friend who was 20 and had a 2-year-old daughter (yeah, baby). she said, and i believe her, that although what happened was sad, the daughter was the best thing that she ever possessed. i can see from your pic that it is the same with your son. (you look so sweet) | | | |

| | hey... "orgasm, health benefits"... yeah, i will remember that for my neice. i haven't talked about that. thanks for pointing that out. i have 5 neices and 2 nephews (phew) and since my siblings and their partners are often ruled by 'norms', it becomes my task to talk to them about such things. talk about raising children! | | | |

| | there are so many opinions on this this topic, it is impossible to be right or wrong. Personally, I think that this topic is a parents' responsibility, at least mostly. But, different parents have different experiences, so even then, things are explained in different ways and with different good/bad inuendos. Even parents who want it to be kept at home, scream when the schools didn't teach anything. I do believe that the whole 'sinful' thing is a mistake, because it is hard, emotionally, to go from that belief into 'it's ok' when you are married. It is also sad, and a double standard, for girls and boys. Girls can get kicked out of school for getting pregnant, but the father is seldom targeted. It doesn't help that celebrities like Britney spears, and the younger sister, are setting horrible examples for young people. People still think that you can't get pregnant if you haven't started menstruating yet or (unbelievably) if it your first time. People in many cases don't understand that it is the time BEFORE yuor period that is the risky time, and many a girl has become pregnant without ever even having her first monthly. Schools really have had to back off, they have to protect themselves from lawsuits. I think it should be kept on a family levle, however, I think with parent's permission a student should be able to talk to a teacher, but maybe not as a whole classroom. Wait...I just contradicted myself, sorry! It is confusing, eh? | | | | | | |

| | You are so very fortunate that the father of your children stayed with you from the time you found out you were first pregnant as a teen. So many boys will hide and say "that's not my baby." Often parents (especially in the olden days) would get upset when their kids go off and get pregnant, but when the baby got nearer to being born the parents forgot all about their child disappointing them, and embraced their child and grandchild. It's human nature. I was shocked when my daughter got pregnant at 17. The boy was a man 10 years older than her. She met him at her job.. got pregnant... married him... and 5 years later she divorced him because she was tired of the abuse to her child and herself. | | | |

| | oreo, i'm sorry to hear about your daughter. yes, there are a lot of teenage girls who fall victim to the painful "not-mine's". that's what happened to this girl i was talking about. tammy, i am glad that what happened made you stronger. it should be that way for all of us, for every failure. i just hope that the girl's friends also take lesson out of the incident. | | | |

| | I absolutely agree on this one that "teenage pregnancy" is a sensitive issue and its very important to feel sympathetic towards kids who go through , first of all we should act as 'HUMAN'guys! we all make mistakes, n these are kids! yes, its true that cos of innocense they crossed their limit but the fact is that when a girl is pregnant ,she has a LIFE inside her , how can v ignore that? and become so develish towards her! specially the girl. i come from a country where this is considered a SIN and often girls are forced to go thru abortion ,i actually knew a girl who went thru it ,had an abortion and then commited suicide. its sad! that to elope one sin we encourage girls to go thru another sin , and that is abortion! its sad really sad! | | | | | | |

| | Well I can't say you are wromg at all because the way society is going about the sexuality thing doesn't really put any age barrier between who can indulge and who can abstain. But trying to talk the kids through like you suggest would be a perfefct thing or seemingly solution if what ever we will talk to them about will be able to hold steam against the TV commercials and peer pressure they will have to come against. Am thinking maybe we can rely on religion a bit to instill the morals in their hearts then we can follow up on their progress with close guidance. | | | | | | |

| | A. MUCH THANKS ~ for providing me your article about "teenage pregnancy" laid out in very nice three (3) paragraph, which I separated it three (3) subtitle; intro, happening, and action. All of it, actually, described about life action and reaction in one community life. The malpractice and maltreat issue. B. COMMUNITY LIFE SENSITIVITY In this case, one community physically rules and regulates by their own custom and the practice of it. Their mentality always referred to the previous life journals happened in their own community. Whereas, their spiritual driven by nature of religion and their religious practices. Both factors are their main sensitivity scales in managing, handling and taking control their community members life in making any decision for the happenings. C. TEACHERS AND TEACHING Teachers are not excluded from that both factors like what I've explained in my Paragraph B, and their teaching's propensity also driven by majority beholden to custom, culture, and religion in one community. They are under ruling and governing their teaching by the consensus attributed by "majority voice" in one community. I referred to your own writing for; (copied and pasted) "it was saddening that the society labels teenage sezuality as 'sinful' and does not explain why." The one word for "sinful" means, teachers and the community are driven by religious factor. So, in encountering this kind of "teenage pregnancy" what you should do is by using religious factor; facts and journals; to edify them in rendering your soliciting practice to support that girl. I mean, tell them that things already happened and that girl was a victim whom needs support. She was a "prey" to that both guys. Nerve and verbal "war" is impractical for solution finding, in this case. Point fingering will turn things more worsen, must focus on solution finding and absolutely others will follow. MY CONCLUSION In handling one community case, just like handling fire, regardless of its scale for either small or big. Without proper knowledge embraced and equated in majority members mind in the community, discrimination will take place. I must use the "sensitivity" factor in solving any friendship, networking and community problem happens in my life. You've done nothing wrong, but only need the precise approach towards problem solving, where you are in one community with various levels of member's mind openness. Just imagine, how do you going to approach one huge venomous snake? | | | | | | |

| | Great! you're very great, Liaamur. You've strong and effective self-determination in your life problem solving, I admire it very much which it is a rare in a few group of people in one community who equalize the action taken and counter attack the reaction given. Yeah, don't fret and don't worry, next time when you face the similar problem just one thing to remember when negotiating with "venomous snake", carry along with you a bamboo stick, any snake will "acquiesce" with the thaumaturgy of a bamboo, so search what is a bamboo stick! | | | |
